I just realized that the last line of 3. Difficulty at The Beginning could be describing first intercourse. Am I way off base to see it that way or is it pretty well accepted that charging horses could represent the male bursting the female hymen and thus blood but also leading to 42. Increase, pregnancy?

Hi,

I just realized that the last line of 3. Difficulty at The Beginning could be describing first intercourse.
Nope, it isn't.

Am I way off base to see it that way
Yep.

or is it pretty well accepted that charging horses could represent the male bursting the female hymen and thus blood but also leading to 42. Increase, pregnancy?

It's about a joining/union that doesn't stick, the one who wanted/sought the union cries.

So, only because you are focusing on biological and sexual imagery,
will I say you could certainly apply it to menstruation and miscarriage.

And to relationships that do not succeed.

If you or someone you know just recently got lucky, and got this line,
Please accept or pass on my condolences.

Hi Rosada, the title of your post certainly grabbed my attention!

As usual, what a line from the Yi means depends on the question you put to it. If you asked a question about a business partnership and received 3.6, I don't think I'd jump to the conclusion that the business issues arose out of the violent breaking of a hymen. On the other hand, if you were a teenage woman and you were inquiring about your first sexual experience, well, yes, it might well.

I'm getting more and more resistant to people expressing an opinion about what a line means without reference to a specific question. The same line can mean totally different things viewed through the lens of different questions.

3.6 has to do with a failed attempt, something that ends before it even has much chance to begin. How this might manifest is entirely dependent on the question as Irfan says. You can look at the wikiwing for some good examples/experiences. Sadly it has shown up for miscarriage which is not to say that any pregnant woman will miscarry when they get that line, we know it doesn't work like that.

I've also had more mundanely it for occasions which I prepare for, or rather think of an upcoming occasion in almost too grand of a way. I think it's the classic line of getting all dressed up with nowhere to go. Putting on your best clothes for the party to find your love interest isn't even there.

We know anyone can cast any line for any query. Might a young girl cast this about loss of her virginity? Well if she did I'd be more likely to see a scenario where the scene was set for her rendezvous, she's been anticipating it for weeks, talking to her friends about when her parents go on holiday he's going to come over and do the deed. She's wearing her best lingerie and perfume and her beau falls asleep in the midst of foreplay having had too much to drink.

For a man wishing to penetrate a virgin it's quite a funny omen I find. I mean he's goes forth with intention to get laid but doesn't manage it for whatever reason. It's the tale told in many movies and so on, especially those young teen ones where the boys keep trying to get laid but never quite get there.

I don't think it is well accepted a charging horse is a penis rupturing a hymen, there's no reason it would be. Also as I keep on saying like a broken record 3.6 does not 'lead to' 42 in the sense that 42 is the 'outcome' of 3.6. I don't think anything will make you change your mind about this but still.

Disclaimer- these examples are entirely fictional

Also disclaimer - I don't mean to say this line just means 'failed attempt' it depends on the question, it isn't always an 'attempt' at all, can be just a show of intent even only to one's own self and so on

3.6 can be seen as the line of culmination in the process of a new beginning or something that has just been born. Hex 3 guides one towards finding a place for everything and everything in its place such that some sort of stability can be reached in this new life amongst all the chaos of the myriad things.

The culmination line, perhaps, talks of having backed the wrong horses (too wild and chaotic) to take you forward and the deep pain and frustration this brings.

For me, relating this line to first intercourse and the breaking of the hymen would not be my immediate port of call.

Thanks for your thoughts. I just thought I could see a pattern here based on hexagram 3.2's reference to the girl holding off having sex and thus I was thinking 3.6 could mean she finally does:
Hexagram 1. Create! Go forth and multiply!
Hexagram 2. This womb isn't going to impregnate itself...
3. The Difficulties:
Hexagram 3.1 You'll need a friend to help.
Hexagram 3. 2 You have to be a certain age to get pregnant.
Hexagram 3.3 You need an older wiser guide to help you.
Hexagram 3.4 You and friend fool around a bit, trying to figure out what to do.
Hexagram 3.5 Holding hands and hugging isn't going to get results.
Hexagram 3.6 Guess there's no gentle way to solve this!
Hexagram 4. A child is born!

Been thinking about it some more and still not able to get aboard with the child birth analogy.
For me if there is a something to be born then that form is being taken coming out of Hex 2 and may not even be fully formed until Hex 30.
Just for fun here:
3.1 - Softly softly catchee monkey
3,2 - Change how you see things
3,3 - Not too fast now
3.4 - Put together what belongs together
3.5 - Chop wood and carry water
3.6 - Oh no !! New axe and bucket required.

my-key, I appreciate your putting your time and energy into this discussion yet I have to admit, I don't follow your thinking at all! How's that for a demonstration of Difficulty at The Beginning?
I've taken awhile to post again on this thread as I sense a strong resistance to the idea I'm trying to present - that too could be a demonstration of the hexagram 3. experience: trying to join 1. An idea with 2. Acceptance and finding it 3. Difficult. Aw well...
Thanks to all who read this!

Hi Rosada
Just looking to be a bit clearer here.

I can see how the explanation you gave for each of the lines has a distinct thread of meaning for you following the path of uncoordinated, immature fumblings, through intercourse and finally to birth. There is no resistance to this perspective from me. You are entitled to hold your own views and express them.

I saw in your words an outline of choice, integrity, ownership and right action. Mulling this all over I was inspired to make my own story line - just for fun. Looking back, though, my post did not honour and respect your post and I do now see my post as taking the thread off course - even hijacked it.

I apologise for that.

I can see the connection to my words from yours but fully understand that others may not be able to join the dots. My mind does work in mysterious ways at times.

Take Care

Mulling this over some more.

Rather than 'First Intercourse' I could stretch to see Hex 3, using this sexual backdrop, as 'First Intercourse on a First Date' with Meatloaf's 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light' playing full volume as an accompanying soundtrack.

The Time is caught in the middle of the newly released myriad beings and is marked by a stand off between yin and yang. This is the first time ! Yin might even be in the ascendency which is not her appropriate place. Neither knowing, or having experience of how to direct things for the greater good at this vital moment of conception.

"What's it going to be boy ? What's it going to be?" and unable to sleep on it a short term gratification perspective wins the day. For both sides 'it never felt so good, it never felt so right' yet much chaos and torment stems from what may seem minor disconnects at the beginning. Promises have been made, actions taken and false beliefs have been adopted. Then much like the butterfly that flaps it wings on one side of the world an increasingly turbulent storm has been set in motion that cannot be averted.

... or it might be nothing like that at all.

Take Care
