Hi, and thanks to all for being here Today I asked this question because in the past weeks I decided not to see for a long time my ex partner, the father of my children. We are in a good relationships, but unfortunately every time I see him, I feel very sad after. So when today he was asking me to see us for a dinner for the birthday of our son (20 years old), I said I would prefer not to see him, but see only my son for lunch or breakfast. Of course I am not sure of what I am doing. And this is why I asked if I did well...I do not think it could be a problem for my son (he is old enough, not a baby) but I am wondering if this can be good to change the problems with my ex partner...

You did well to refrain from meeting (35.1) so as to protect yourself (30).
It doesn't look like your action will change the relationship/problems with him, however it's always good to protect ourselves and stay away from harm. The line clearly says "not a mistake".
