Greetings,

I have received wonderful advice here before and would like to request yet more help with a very difficult situation. Recently a work associate got dumped by her husband. He simply packed up his belongings while she was at work and then notified her by e-mail. In addition to dealing with extreme emotional and financial distress she has also lost most of her social circle because they were closer to her husband than to her. Since she and I live in the same neighborhood I volunteered to check on her pets when she left on a trip this week

All the indoor animals are healthy and well-groomed. An outdoor feral cat, close to 20 years of age, is in shockingly deplorable condition. The word "dreadlocks" does not even come close to describing the horrific state of her coat. This cat does not allow human contact but eats, drinks, naps, etc. I saw her for the first time yesterday and have felt haunted ever since. Although I'm no expert I think she would have to be sedated in order for someone to remove the tangled masses of fur. Not sure if a cat of her age would necessarily survive. Honestly, I think my work associate could be charged with animal cruelty or neglect in regard to this situation although associate does seem to genuinely care about the cat.

Last night I received 35.1.3.4.6>36 when I asked what I should do to help the feral cat. Since 35 and 36 are a "hexagram pair", so to speak, I find myself thinking that 35.6 might be the most meaningful line in my reading. I tend to think (rightly or wrongly) that the top line of a hexagram is generally a precursor to the conditions described in the following hexagram.

35.6 - Wing: Take aggressive and offensive measures only when you seek to discipline yourself. Such severe precautions will help you to avoid regretful errors. Do not, however, make the mistake of using the same force on others or you will suffer the humiliation of alienation and failure.

Is the I Ching possibly advising that I take no action right now? Incidentally, this morning I left house keys on kitchen counter of associate's residence so I no longer have access to property. She is returning later today. Sorry I haven't analyzed this reading further but I don't feel quite able to think rationally about situation yet.

Thanks in advance for any opinions and guidance.

Hi galatea

My take is that the cat is beyond the reach of your help now. Most probably whitin month Mao (second month in the chinese calendar) there could be a window of oportunity to help.

Hi Sixth Relative,

Thanks so much for your response. I just tried looking up Mao in the Chinese calendar but ended up getting confused. Does Mao roughly correspond with the second month of the American calendar (February?) If not, can you give me a rough time frame in terms of the western calendar? Understand time frame will not be exact but it may help organize my thinking. Been toying with the idea of contacting a wildlife rescue group to see if someone might help me with cat since a normal veterinarian would likely be scandalized (just woke up - can't think of a better word) by the situation. Thank you again for replying and thanks also for any further guidance. Much appreciated.

Incidentally, your words confirmed my initial feeling from the 35>36 reading. Last night while meditating before bed I saw 35-36 as an hourglass with sands shifting as the hourglass got turned over. Somehow it feels like the sands are still shifting and it's not yet time to act.

Hi

In 2017 the second lunar month (Mao) goes from February 26 to March 30 of the Gregorian calendar.

Hope this can help.

Thanks so much, Sixth Relative. I have a bonus job in February which ends about a week before that time frame so I will have some extra money if needed for the cat. Another question, if I may.. would you agree that the 35>36 reading is telling me to wait for the right opportunity rather than to try and create one? Thanks so much for any continued advice. Appreciate it more than I can say.

Greetings,

The feral cat mentioned in this post died of natural causes on July 7. I later found out that my work associate had at some point paid a mobile vet to visit the property and examine the cat. Vet had the opinion that it would be too traumatic for the cat to endure any attempt to reshape its coat. Also learned that kitty had been born on the property, possibly been brain damaged in a fluke accident (not abuse) and had simply rejected human contact for most of its life. Although I stayed alert to opportunity to help kitty in any way possible I think 35>36 reading was basically telling me that, as Sixth Relative's stated, the "cat is beyond the reach of your help".
