Greetings,

My friend R has Parkinson's Disease and has also been suffering debilitating pain in his back. He now needs round-the-clock assistance in his home so friends and family stay with him on a rotating basis. Last Saturday I stayed overnight at R's house, bolting from bed around 5am on Sunday morning when I heard him crying out in distress. I ran into his room to find him talking and expressing rather wild emotion in his sleep. Due to his back pain I did not want to grab his body so I began talking very loudly to try and wake him with my voice. Suddenly I became very sick and dizzy, staggered from the room, and fainted in the next bedroom. When I awoke on the floor some time later I heard R calling to me. He later said that the whole house shook when I hit the floor and the impact had woken him up. Additionally, he had no recollection of his nightmare and said that he knew of only one other occasion in his lifetime when he had talked in his sleep. For the rest of the morning I had trouble entering his room because I felt a malignant force field (not exaggerating) within those walls but nowhere else in the house. I opened windows to let air inside and told his next caregiver what happened when she arrived. As I prepared to leave she and R sat chatting in his room, neither of them noticing anything awry in the environment. I still felt dizzy each time I walked in there.

Sorry for the long preamble but I wanted to get the details in there. Each morning I meditate and ask the I Ching for daily guidance. Before departing for R's house on Saturday I had received 36.6>22.

Do you think 36.6 (Wilhelm/Baynes: Not light but darkness. First he climbed up to heaven, then he plunged into the depths of the earth.) may have predicted a fainting spell? I feel sort of silly asking this but would love insight from anyone who may have the inclination to offer it.

Btw.. there's another relatively new thread about 36.6 on this forum where several people discuss the ominous (or not) nature of 36.6. After receiving 36.6 on Saturday morning I had felt half alarmed/half relieved. In recent years it seems that I have been working my way through some very negative residual karma. After many years spent with rather violent people I have changed my lifestyle dramatically. Leaving home on Sat morning I had thought to myself: "Well, good. Maybe this signals the end of the darkness."

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on 36.6 in regard to fainting spells or just its general meaning.

To me 36.6 does sound like a fainting fit yes. One moment there you are...and then you're not. It's a perfect, almost tongue in cheek description from Yi.

As for 36.6 being ominous, no if you look at the words of Yi from Hilary's translation (not a commentary) it simply says

'Not bright, dark.
At first rises up to heaven,
Later enters into the earth.'

So when you interpret this or any other line this, the words of the Yi are the key to your answer, since look how beautifully fluid they are. Simply through imagery it describes your fainting fit as you intuited. Well done BTW I think that was some clear intuitive understanding of the line, uncluttered by ideas of ominous or not..which isn't a word that is even there.

So obviously the line won't always mean 'fainting fit', it won't always mean anything, it's fluid enough to for a million different questions. I see it as times when you get both sides of a thing in such quick succession, it's like being in the light then in the shade. It can of course show something at it's height quickly falling into decline and vice versa. I've seen it in miniature as I wrote in wiki for situations where you see the transcendent and the gross at the same time. Ever meditated and felt sublime and then then had a row or upset within the same 5 minutes ? This is line 6. earlier lines show being in hiding from darkness but in line 6 well the darkness is there to see, along with the light.

I wonder if your body/mind's way of coping with the darkness you felt in the room was to switch off...or perhaps you by feeling it , processed it on some level, I don't know, but I do think the line describes a faint to perfection. I might put it in wiki if I may ?

oh and of course there may be times it could be experienced as terribly ominous, it all depends on the scale of the question and how you feel about suddenly seeing hidden aspects for all they are. It can mean reversals in power or fortune...as the Dylan song says "he who is first will later be last...for the times they are a changing". All tyrants fall, all exalted experiences also fall in the mundanity of life. Think of the phrase 'from the sublime to the ridiculous' for example.

I think in your fainting fit it's about your consciousness...it's there, then it's not. It's a sudden darkening like a cloud behind the sun...then out again thankfully :)

I've tended to experience the line as showing both aspects, the sublime and the crass within the same 5 minutes. It can be sobering when you feel high...like for example someone giving a talk on peace and love and then going out to find their car has been vandalised and feeling no peace and love at all. Dark side and light side are as close as the 2 sides of a coin in a very noticeable way with this line.

Thank you so much, Trojina. I appreciate your thoughtful answer more than I can say. Please do include anything or everything in the wiki that you like. I hope the experience will help others. Your thoughts on the subject are so rich and beautifully worded. Honestly, it will take me a little while to process everything so I will delay providing any feedback til I've had more time to reflect.

Interestingly, after the fainting episode my friend R had said something to the effect of: "The spirits are trying to keep you away from me." Don't think he used the words "spirits" but something to that effect. I also learned from another friend that the room with bad energy had once been the bedroom of his stepbrother who died tragically some years ago. One more odd thing: house is a rather small 1920s bungalow filled to the rim with furniture, medical supplies, etc. It would be a virtual impossibility for anyone to faint without hitting a wall, piece of furniture, etc. but I awoke without a single scratch or bruise. Told friend that it felt like I had been placed on the floor.

Anyways, haven't sorted all this out yet but you have provided me with a lot of remarkable insight to ponder. Thanks again, Trojina!

Greetings,

I have never again seen my friend R since the above-mentioned fainting episode at his home in April. A lot of strange things have transpired since. Tonight I thought of this 36.6 reading because I saw that Diamanda has requested an update on another 36.6 reading. Turns out that Trojina very nearly predicted the future with her above comment in this thread:

Trojina: "oh and of course there may be times it could be experienced as terribly ominous, it all depends on the scale of the question and how you feel about suddenly seeing hidden aspects for all they are."

It now appears that R and his friends were involved in some very dark, ugly stuff. I thought I was doing the right thing by assisting him in his hour of need (R is debilitated due to Parkinsons) but with 36.6 the Universe gave me what I now regard now as a warning that some grim truths were about to be revealed to me and they would change everything.

Big thanks again to Trojina for your help with interpretation. This thread has resurfaced in my head more times than I can possibly count.
