I asked the Oracle on how to proceed with the stock market this year to yield me a great return this year (I would love to retire early and give financial assistance to my family).

I received the hexagram of 37 with changing lines of 3,5 to hexagram 27. Maybe there is some form of influence from my immediate relationships that I may need connect with? It seems that moderation is key to this.

Any idea what this means? Maybe I should recast with more concrete possible actions that I may take? Maybe a different question should be posed.

Well your question presumes this is possible. And perhaps that you have the requisite skill and resources needed to do so. Assumptions often get in the way of a clear reading, because the Yi may address your assumptions rather than your question - especially if they are wrong! But anyway.

"How (should I) to proceed with the stock market this year to yield me a great return?"
37.3.5 > 27.
27 as context. Nourishment. The Yi is speaking about being "discerning in what you eat." Wise choices in what you fill your mouth with.

37 is the hexagram of the family.
37.3 - You need to be timely, not slow to react. If you lose your temper you will regret it, but being strict is better than being too lax, strictness leads to good fortune, being slow to react or lax will lead to humiliation.
Wilhelm/Baynes: When tempers flare up in the family, too great a severity brings remorse. Good fortune nonetheless. When women and children dally and laugh, it leads in the end to humiliation.

37.5 - This line is about the King loving his family and buying them a home.
Interest rates are really low, maybe real estate investment trusts are good stock that will quickly appreciate in value. Or buying a home or homes.

Thank you for replying!

Yes, you are right. I made a strong assumption. Figured the I-Ching would deter me and give a warning cast if I wasn't able to capitalize. I am on the sidelines with cash. I would love to buy a home but I don't want to overextend myself with a loan given the high prices of housing in my city. However, I will reconsider if the real estate tanks.

Maybe this isn't the year to move in the markets!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post.

Well in the US the Fed is loaning money at 0% interest. That means you can use more of other people's money. And the pandemic will depress housing prices for a while and there will be a lot of foreclosures. And there are stocks that specifically invest in real estate, REITS.
This may be where the part of the reading about being too strict leading to good fortune comes in. If you want to make money in this market you may feel remorseful about it. But you won't get good luck financially by being soft. And you did ask.

Agreed with you. I think it will be about 3-6 months until we see the adverse effects bleed into the real estate market.

I am going to sleep more on this and casually browse stocks that focus on real estate. Maybe I will ask the Oracle more pointed question on what company to invest in.

Thank you!

Hi,
I think you asked 2 questions - 1) how to proceed? With the assumption that you will achieve big gain - 2) how to yield big gains? This makes it difficult to understand the answer.
I think you should recast with a more specific question, like what kind of gain is possible for me this year? Then - where should I invest? More specific.

As for this particular question, what I see in the first hexagram is a warning - if you take things very seriously, the outcome will be bad, but can be remedied. If you take things lightly, there will be misfortune.
Nourishment often refers to simply “earning your daily bread”, making a living. It can simply reflect back on the subject of your own question, or might mean in this case that there will not be any spectacular gains, or that the gains will have to do with your job or usual way of making money, something routine. I suggest recasting, be careful with your question. Since I Ching shows you an image, a description of a situation, it can’t answer yes or no, formulate your question accordingly.

I see 37.3 as a warning to not fall for the pitches that make it sound like investing in the stock market is fun and easy and a sure thing. You might be sad to lose out on all the promised profits but in the end you'll be glad you didn't indulge.
37,5 Might mean it would be good to find an experienced stock broker to guide you rather than just trusting your own instincts.

I think the stock market has become a daily distraction for me. Indeed the best investment is really yourself. I was just promoted and my investments can't compete with what I make on my job.

Thank you Greenleaf for the pointed suggestion in being more specific and rewording my question.
