Hello,

I'm a newbie and this is my first posting of my interpretation of a reading.

Hilary suggested that I try out doing readings with yarrow stalks, so I purchased yarrow stalks and with the new set asked Yi about doing readings with yarrow stalks.

I got hexagram 41 with 1st line changing to hexagram 04.

While using the yarrow I noticed my impatience at how long it took. I also noticed the anxiety I felt wondering if I was "doing it wrong" and excitement to see what the reading would say.

Hexagram 41 in this reading is about ritual and sacrifice, and how doing a reading with yarrow is a sacrifice of my impatience, of my need to know and learn in the fastest way possible. It's an invitation to slow down, and notice what's the energy behind the reading. Taking my time with the yarrow will result in a deeper relationship with Yi.

1st line changing is telling me that at the same time it is okay to do readings with coins, or other methods that take a shorter time, as long as I approach the readings with sincerity. All of the methods work and one isn't better than another.

Hexagram 04 is where I'm having some difficulty. It is about immaturity, and also how maybe it's okay to be foolish since I am a beginner?

Any interpretations with this reading will be appreciated, I'm really enjoying studying Yi now ;)

I wondered if you meant to post this in CC as it is so related to your other question there ? It's just as it was Hilary's suggestion she is pretty unlikely to see your answer here but she will see it in CC.

Many times I've seen this line describe someone dealing with something quickly then moving on to the next thing. I think this line is telling you that you don't need this elaborate method to consult effectively. There is no need for either ritual or sacrifice in consulting Yi unless you enjoy it for it's own sake. To be frank I think the answer is telling you to get on with it, don't hang around doing this, use a quicker method, sacrifice less time and energy. It is stressed in 41 that only two bowls of grain are needed. It's asking you to offer less with sincerity IMO.

No, sincerity is all you need.

Ah yes I think you are right here, well this was my assessment too. I think it's a very clear answer. No, no method is better than another, it depends on what suits you. I like coins best. However I and others have found on occasion one gets the same answer from the computer generated cast as the coins with the same question.

With one line moving the relating hexagram doesn't matter much IMO. That is I think you have a very clear answer without needing to think too hard about 4. It must have some connection to 41.1 of course. Perhaps it reflects you are a beginner here ?

I have linked to this thread in CC also. I hope you don't mind, it's just it follows on from your other question there.
