Please give your understanding and experience of this line. I am interested in understanding it because I have received it twice when asking a "What about doing this...?" type of question (on the same subject.)

I have been looking at the translation in Wikiwing on the changing line, i.e., "‘Constancy bears fruit,
Setting out to bring order: pitfall.
Not decreasing, increasing it.’

My first understanding was "Yes, keep being involved in this effort. Don't decrease the effort, increase the effort." But I was not sure how to understand "Setting out to bring order, pitfall."

The first time I received the line it was with another changing line, i.e., 41.2.6 > 24. And my understanding was the same --- keep involved, increase the effort. But then I read in Wikiwing this: "Change this with line 6 and you have Hexagram 24. You are thinking of benefiting someone who has more than enough already. Curb your desire to be of service. Rest. " And I changed my interpretation. The activity I am contemplating is a political one. And I am thinking I need to spend time focusing on taking care of myself and my own projects I've delayed for a decade. I tend to find it easier to do work for someone else's "campaign" than my own. But perhaps I can find a way to do both. Attend to my own agenda and the political one.

I was originally going to post this in "Exploring Divination" because I am mostly interested in folks' understanding and interpretation of the line. But here it is in Shared. :bows:

As I understand 41.2, it means not to take on activities that are like projects. You are thinking of benefiting someone, but it would be better if you didn't take it on if it has a specific goal, deadlines, and so forth.

I think it could mean not to add more to the plate-- keep doing what you are doing without decreasing your own obligations, then there's increase (benefit) for both you and the other party. Good luck.

Thank you, ginnie and juaneros for your feedback. I am finding myself compelled to continue the political work. It doesn't feel so much like a "project" as it does a "calling". And I think if the campaign is successful it will not only benefit me and the other "party" --- but everyone. That is why I am so compelled to continue working on it. The challenge is going to be for me to make sure that I do not decrease my own obligations.

Hexagram 27 Relating

I receive hexagram 27 when I am asked to consider what nourishes me, in all aspects of life -- work, relationships, spiritually, etc-- and when there is a question about the most nourishing balance of all my diverse pursuits.

for me this line means "you can find a way to do both," and that contributions of real value to society will not require you to sacrifice anything truly important to you. in my experience, i could offer more creative contributions if i didn't go along with what others wanted. i had to be careful to respect myself, think for myself, and protect my own interests while resisting the tendency to get swept up in plans that might have diminishing returns.

"Setting out to bring order: pitfall" is indicating that there would be a pitfall in setting out to resolve (bring order to) any unfinished issue, such as working on someone else's campaign. Wilhelm puts it very clearly = "To undertake something brings misfortune." He continues with = "Without decreasing oneself, one is able to bring increase to others." Without having to sacrifice any of your time or effort you will still be able to give support/encouragement to others - if not now, then at some time in the future.

It is truly fulfilling to help others but there are times when there is an even greater need to fulfil our own destiny - by simply persevering we quietly and modestly fulfil ourselves.
