I asked Yi today if my depression and anxiety will lift soon and got:

41.4 > 38

I guess that means that I am in a stage of letting go now 41 and will naturally loosen up my views about life and the past 41.4 but then I am confused as to 38.
Your thoughts would be much welcomed.

Newlife, i think your - as you put it - loosening up your views might have to do with your surroundings too; choosing to spend more time with people who are more proactive and positive than your usual buddies/ companions might be beneficial for you in this period. You might want to read Hilary's essay on 38, among else: "There's a time or a way of defining ourselves as part of the group, when we can be completely ourselves, safely contained within the home space. And also there's a time or a way when this dao is exhausted and we need to differentiate ourselves." http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/learn/gua/hexagrams/hexagram38.php
That being said - this interpretation is mine assuming that you are not casting the Yi and asking questions based on false assumptions (ie. that your depression is not self-diagnosed, as it was the case in one of the earlier threads about reversed kundalini... the thing is that people oftentimes name 'depression' an ephemeral low; if one is indeed suffering from depression/going through the dark night of the soul, then i am afraid there isn't really a way to 'lift it soon", it's a process and in most of the cases, prolonged and uncomfortable one. )
ETA: what i meant by above is that maybe you could ask for best course of action - or some other question which presumes more of your own involvement; like, how to align your actions with Dao or something like that. Hope this helps.

Will my depression and anxiety lift soon?
41.4 > 38

Yes, your struggles (41) are nearly over, and you will find friends (38) outside your immediate circle. This casting is especially auspicious.

Thanks littlebuddha
I don't know anything about reverse kundilini and don't practice kundalini yoga. I've been depressed for a long ass time now and just want to have a better life.

"what you resist, persists" ~ Jung One of my fav things he had said...

Maybe 38 describes the estrangement and underlining friction between two selves living in your "home" , like Li & Tui , living under the same roof but belong to different men. So , maybe, 41.4 might propose to listen to those two self and especially the one you don't like and is responsible for those feelings. Might it have something useful to say. Embrace it ! maybe its the only way to calm it down. I don't mean make it YOURS... I ,mean instead saying "go away" say "ok, tell me what you want" .

Thanks,
I was going to ask pocossin why he said that but I think I'll just appreciate the answer as is.

Thanks. I am ok with depression as it can be relaxing if it is mild. It's the anxiety that is really scary. I was once told by a Hindu scholar that anxiety is desire unfullfilled.

Hi newlife,

How does seeing 38 as a conflict between “want to” (lower trigram joyous, lake) and “have to” (upper trigram clinging, flame) fit your situation?

It’s a concept I found in the beginning of “A Life of Being, Having, Doing Enough” by Wayne Muller which suggests asking ourselves if whatever we are doing is something we “want to” do or something we “have to” do. I tried applying it to myself on a “depressing” day I had all lined up, a day of all chores, all about “have to,” nothing fun, and was happily surprised at the outcome. Instead of all “have to,” I let myself imagine what “want to" would look like. It turned out just going to a coffee shop to have my favorite chai latte tea and reading for awhile was the first thing that came to mind. I then happily thought, “You know, if I just drop this one thing off the list and change it to next week, I could add the coffee shop in today.” My whole attitude about the entire day was changed. Even the “have to” chores felt like “want to” again. In reality, I do “want to” do the things I tell myself I “have to” do, but there gets to be a point when being too goal-oriented turns my “want to” into “have to.”

Now, I have an antidote and maybe it applies to your situation as well. Of course, anxiety about things implies a more complex situation, not feeling as much in control, but maybe the basic principle can still apply and help things turn around for you too…

Best wishes,

Iams
