Hi everybody, I just cast the hexagram 44 with changing line 1, in reference to an infection I recently got medication for. I was happy to go to the doctor because I've been trying to treat it myself for a few weeks with herbs and plants from my back yard, but it was a little too much for me too handle. Now that I'm on antibiotics, I don't feel that I'm getting better, although it is very early into the treatment.

what is going to happen with this illness?

43.1 to 28

Any insight will be helpful
thank you :)

44.1 changes to hex 1, not hex 28. But if the top line, 44.6, is the moving line, then the relating hex would be 28. Please clarify.

Does the system allow editing thread titles as well? I've never tried to do that, but your thread title still says the wrong reading.

Here's what Wilhelm says about 43.1:

"Mighty in the forward-striding toes.
When one goes and is not equal to the task,
One makes a mistake."

The herbal treatment you tried was not equal to the task, as you found out, and since several weeks went by, the infection may have taken root much more than it would have otherwise. It might take longer than usual for the antibiotics to work.

Other possibilities might be that it's the wrong specific antibiotic for the particular infection you have, or even that your problem is actually a virus, which antibiotics won't help at all. (I took antibiotics a few years ago for what turned out to be the flu - a virus - and of course they did no good.)

But it seems likely that it's just from spending too much time trying an ineffective treatment, which would go along with the first sentence in 43.1: you set out with great confidence to treat this yourself, but (second sentence) it wasn't up to the task. Your confidence in the herbal treatment was misplaced.

I have taken the liberty to correct the thread title.

Thank you pocossin for changing the title; I did try to change it myself but I couldn't seem to figure it out.

Lisa, I saw your reply several days ago and have thought about it many times since. You are spot on, it was a much bigger problem than I could've handled and it did get worse because of that truth. I really hope this isn't a virus, but after a week or so on the medication I am feeling much better and it is clearing up.

It's interesting how a reading may address a situation without directly answering the question, maybe the question itself wasn't as important? I wonder because I originally asked what was going to happen, but it seems the yijing thought it best to tell me where I had gone wrong that allowed it progress to that point, which ultimately holds a bigger lesson for me, I think, than just knowing I'm going to be okay... which I think I am.

Thank you kindly for your response, Lisa <3

I'm glad you're feeling better!

You're absolutely right about how Yi answers sometimes. I have mixed feelings about it! I can see where the important thing here was probably to remind you that you'd made a mistake, so that you don't try doing that again. On the other hand, it can make readings difficult to interpret: we're looking at the answer through the lens of the question we asked, and it doesn't seem to fit. And often, with my own readings (in which I'm frequently too emotionally invested to see straight ), I have no idea what it's saying, and I end up thinking just answer the question, already!

In this case, Yi may have answered in an educational way because you'd already taken the proper steps and gotten antibiotics from a doctor. If you hadn't, Yi may have addressed that urgent need instead. (Obviously I don't know that, I'm just speculating.)
