Hi sunnygirl,

It sounds to me as if indeed you don't fit in there, but not because of a general and
abstract incompatibility, but because the people there are of a much lower sort. I can
only guess that they're the kind of people so abundant in most workplaces (and in life
in general, sadly) who thrive on ego and power games. 44:3 tells you that you can't
become like them even if you try. 44:6 shows that at some point you decided to stay
away from them. And 47 merely shows how exhausting the whole situation is for you.
You obviously don't belong to that kind of people, and as is usual, they can see it too,
and thus do not take your opinions into account.

What you should do - 1:1 speaks of someone who possesses great qualities, and yet
remains hidden. Don't show your real self to them. Continue on the 44 line, ie, stay
away, but be aware that you are the hidden dragon, and even if they approach you,
it will only be with bad/low intentions. Are you considering finding a new job? Or
perhaps this is a case of better the devil you know?

you're right where you're supposed to be

I think Diamanda's right: 44.6 seems to betray the fact that you had (or still may have) some relatively serious disagreements or conflicts or tensions among one or more of your co-workers. Perhaps you tried to disengage from these "inferior" people, with more or less success. And perhaps this disengagement has produce an air of discomfort in your work environment. At least, that's what I'm picking up.

47 appears to be an elaboration of this theme. It appears you are the "superior person" or the "person of virtue" in the midst of these dark, inferior elements, and you are therefore feeling the effects: exhaustion, oppression.

I've also discovered that you can get more detailed insight into 44.6 by studying the text of 45 ASSEMBLING. (Read more about hexagram sequences to learn how I arrived at this conclusion).

#45 ASSEMBLING speaks to your situation. ASSEMBLING is very clearly about a group or gathering of people. This group can be family members, colleagues, a society or organization, a sports team, etc. I often have received #45 with respect to my family assembly - and often there was tension, conflict, confusion, darkness in that assembly - darkness that I needed to address and in which I needed to find my "most comfortable role."

Perhaps you are struggling to find your "most comfortable role" within your work relationships. It seems that your work relationships represent an improper or unhealthy assembly, and that is what is causing you stress and discomfort.

The only thing that helped me when I was in a similar situation with family was to just distance myself from them. I stayed away, communicating as little as possible, giving them as little ammunition as possible, for many months. Eventually, the assembly -dynamic changed of its own accord. The more I tried to change the assembly, the more oppositional the assembly became, and the more oppression/exhaustion i experienced.

#45 for me, was a case of letting go, protecting myself, befriending myself, setting proper boundaries with the "inferiors", becoming aloof to some extent to my family - until the assembly re-adjusted itself favorably.

You're jusgt in the process, that's all. I suspect you've gone through the difficult way of #46 PUSHING UPWARD. You've tried re-adjusting the (dysfunctional?) assembly in question by pushing, striving, challenging, even if only inwardly. There's no real blame in this; 46 follows 45, and is the natural process. In fact, the tao will carry you through the entire fourth decad (nos. 41-50). You've received #47; you're feeling the oppression; and you're exhausted. Though you may not wish to hear this: you are right where you're supposed to be in the process of this assembly working itself out.

Stay close to tao, remain in tao, and you will help yourself go through nos. 48,49. At last you will arrive at the end of this process, at number 50 THE CAULDRON. A good omen, #50 means that eventually a "cosmic order" (another rendering of the caldron) is ahead; equilibrium will be established; the assembly may stop rubbing each other the wrong way, and you should be able to easily locate your comfortable role in it.

Thank you both very much! :bows: I'm going to study this a bit more; the progressions. In my learning I have been focusing mainly on the main hex and the changes lines if any but it seems like a good time to begin study with progressions.

I'm in a different culture coming from US to Australia and I find conflicts aren't in your face or direct so to speak. It seems more exclusion and passive aggressive.

I think my workmates know my background and where I was before I was a prominent manager on a very public high profile project. I left to go back to a more hands on role. None of these people have ever achieved that level.

People are cordial but keep to themselves. People hang on to knowledge and not too keen on sharing it. I feel a bit lost still as I just have the bits and pieces that I have managed to get and a lot is still missing.

Someone with a lot of knowledge is leaving and leaving a large hole in the team and I stepped up and offered to learn but as I found out yesterday, it was given to someone else to learn and not me.

I will stay there as the pay is very good and the work environment and hours are ok and I need to stay somewhere for the next year for my perm visa. I have all this knowledge to use but feel limited.

I am assigned a meaty long term project as a lead/senior role but it is a technology I hate :brickwall: My boss knows my strengths and I have asked for projects that involve them but they always seem to go to someone else who knows nothing about it.

Plus I am just bored to tears there.
