I ask this based on a realisation that at several moments in life where I have had something very good given to me I have found some way to spoil it and sabotage the situation somewhat; in my own words in my journal "at what should be my moments of greatest realisation I unrealise myself". I decided that a change should occur in myself so that in future should such gifts present themselves I will care for them properly. I asked I Ching specifically what action I should take to make this change, and received 45.1 >17.

Wilhelm speaks in 45.1 of the need for expression. The text refers to calling out and having one's hand grasped. In Geoffrey Redmond's interpretation he says most of hexagram 45 is about sacrifice and for 45.1 he speaks of a wailing and says it refers to a victim about to be sacrificed (is this true?) If this is so it seemed to me the victim to be sacrificed would to my false self that has sabotaged episodes of genuine union - and that this is the necessary sacrifice.

All in all, I take from this that I haven't been fully sincere in my life to date (that's true, I haven't), and I have shown indecision (also true). What might constitute calling out and holding out my hand?

Interested in peoples' thoughts on this.

What might constitute calling out and holding out my hand?

Exactly what it says.
You express your discomfort.
Then another person reaches out and your mood is lifted,
don't worry you are making progress.

When one is feeling down or overwhelmed,
questioning ones decisions, getting ready to call something quits, the line encourages one to hold on, the sign is seen in the one who reaches to you and restores your good cheer.
