End of contact with someone.
Chats and messages: shouls i keep them or cancel everything.
I read in this reading i should cancel everything.
And you?
Pushing upward in the empty city...
I'll wait for some insight from you before proceeding...

It's like an offering, line 2. Like burning everything.
And then pushing upwards in the empty city.

Hi deusa,
I don't know the background as I haven't read your other threads, but my initial impression of your reading is a bit optimistic.

Line 2 - Every message from another person is a humble offering.
Line 3 - Would it make you happy to be the ruler of an empty city?

I have a habit of deleting chats and e-mails after fights or breakups. Sometimes I regret it, because once the negative and painful feelings have passed, it's nice to reminisce, especially if it weren't all bad.

I hope that helps.

The situation wasn't "pure". So if it turns alright, we will start afresh and create "pure offerings".

These would not make sense. Memory will be enough.
Besides, i NEVER cancel chats and mails... new experience...

Personally I always delete everything and I've never regretted it. If you were to get back togethe they've probably kept it all anyway

I'm not very sure of this, but possibly if you look at the reading as a conversation, Yi might be saying something like:

"If you can make this offering (deleting the messages) with sincerity and confidence, then it's worth doing (46.2)"...

[an implication might be that if you're not sure, then don't]

..."because there's really nothing in them for you anymore (46.3)."

[or, until you feel they're an "empty city"]

Is there any urgency to do this? If not, the practical advice might be to just let them sit there until you're absolutely sure you don't want them. That way you protect yourself against regrets.

I think there are interesting line position aspects to this, where possibly Yi is describing the conditions under which you should delete them.

Line 2s can be the emotional center. So, the emotion you'd look for is described by 46.2 ("true and confident" etc.).

Line 3s are at the transition from your inner experience (inner trigram, lines 1, 2, and 3) to the outer world (outer trigram, lines 4, 5, and 6). But you're still in the inner trigram - Hilary describes a line 3 state as something like, "can I? should I?" which is exactly what you're asking. So in this case, the text ("empty city") could again be describing a mindset to watch for (when they feel "empty" to you, then you "can" complete the transition and delete them), or a fact about the messages themselves (that they're actually empty of life).

(I'm not explaining this as well as I'd like. These tools are relatively new to me, and I'm not very sure of them. But I do think they help with your reading.)
