I asked for the picture of the true nature of my relationship/friendship with a friend mine. ("true nature" was just the phrase that came to me as I asked). Yi replied: 47.4 -> 29

Well! I've received 47.4 a few times before but not memorably. And I never know quite how to read it--the person in the 4th line is coming to help the poor soul in line 1, the one who sits under the barren tree and strays into the gloomy valley... That part I understand, and completely fits this situation; my friend's been in bad straits for a long time, and I'm emotionally supportive (in a way that doesn't feel exploitative--because while the outward trappings are me=good situation, friend=bad situation, the reality is more complex and I learn a lot, feel supported in other ways and also vulnerable in ways that aren't clear at first glance). What I don't understand is the rest of line 4--the part about humiliation (because of associating with "powerful and wealthy people"...?) And the slowness implied.

Anyone care to share thoughts or experiences with 47.4? What would you think if you got this about a close friendship, one that feels hard to navigate at times?

Thank you everyone!

Be careful not to be condescending, if you really want to help your friend. It is not easy for a person that is warm by the fire to understand the heart of the person in the snow and cold.

Thanks lavalamp. I hadn't considered the risk of being condescending but I will watch out for that now.
