47.5 to 40 Daily Reading -- Thoughts?

Greetings all!

Been lurking for a bit and thought I would finally step in and say hello. Hello! I've been studying and reading the Yi Ching for well over 15 years (as well as other systems). I use it almost daily these days for all sorts of questions including daily advice, work questions, personal decisions, and even as a creative tool for storytelling.

This morning has been a wonderful and relaxed Sunday morning. Wife and I were out late to a wedding of a friend and we are definitely just "lazing about the house." The day itself is beautiful outside and there is little in the way of stress. I went ahead and did my reading for my "daily advice/wisdom" and I received 47.5 which changes to 40.

I was left sort of shocked and blinking. I'm also having to fight off that belief of "Oh no, this day is going to go downhill." There is no sense of oppression in the day. No sense of anything that the gua represented. I'm very curious to tap the well of information here and get people's thoughts on it.

If the day goes differently, I'll let everyone know...

Hi, I was just wondering ..since you have been getting consultation from I Ching for past so many years, how accurate is Iching...or better way of asking is- how accurate are you in deciphering Iching's message. I am very new, and I just cannot 'get' the I ching messages.

Hex 47.5 is advising you to avoid getting into any type of contact with people in authority, then all will be well. So watch out for cops if you are driving.

It is not telling you that the day is going to be a bad one, it is only warning you what not to do, so that the day will not turn out to be a bad one.

Scarlet -- I find the YiChing to be incredibly accurate. However, like anything else, you need to practice it and get better. It's taken me quite some time to recognize a moving line occurring in my life when its actually happening instead of when I'm reviewing it days later! I think others here will definitely agree with me on this one.

Willowfox -- I thought the same thing. Watch out for police and those in "authority." When my wife asked me if I wanted to go out on some errands with her I actually declined to stay put at home and do housework. They're gonna have to drive up my driveway to get me today! I hate being nervous about a beautiful day like today but I've had such accuracy with all of it that when something like this comes up I listen.

Well one thing is certain. The reading seems to have made you a bit more aware about the surround and the goings-on of the day. Had you not consulted the oracle you may well have been lulled to sleep by the seemingly beautiful vibes of the day. Then become prey to whatever was lurking in line five. We are indeed fortunate to have access to this wonderful work.

I am reminded of this big of Confucian wisdom: The sage cautions himself at the height of things.

magictortoise and auriel -- Thank you. On top of the others, I think its a very good insight on top of it all.

I thought I would go ahead and do a follow-up to that Sunday reading. The day continued on its course with no problems. I did choose to not go into town with my wife and, I think, successfully avoided line 5. In my experience of daily readings, the later lines tend to come in the evening but, still, there was no problem in the evening at all. The only thing different was that my brother stopped by at about the usual time of line 5. But there was no similarities at all between his visit and the line commentary. (He wasn't even wearing a red sash! )

So, it appears that either a.) the hexagram was completely wrong, or, b.) it was right and I'll never really know! I find this to be one of the more interesting complexities of doing oracle work. If you do it right you sometimes never know they work!

Hilary wrote something that shook me, I wish I could remember it verbatim. (I believe) she wrote that she understood people who did not wish to throw frequently, as they just may not want to bring up the stuff, something to the effect that throwing the Yi sometimes brings on the changes. That struck me as very profound.

A strange reading indeed in such idyllic suroundings. What an interesting thread that you started here.

Referencing Karcher (because it was the first book to come to hand)-
The ideogram shows a growing tree surrounded by an enclosure.

Confining means mutual meeting.
Sequence says ascending without a climax necessarily confines you.
The realizing person involves fate to release his purpose. ( Consulting the Yi per hilary and hollis??)

From your reading, I'd see something a bit more spiritual / deeper about your day = maybe something missing from it. Everything appears rosy in the garden, and that is great for you now. However, are you making best use of you time? Is there something else that you should be doing that you are maybe holding off from doing?

The tree ought to be growing, but is it being fertilised?
Bonsai or not Bonsai ? - That is the question.
