Hi everyone,

after some years into asking and reading I still find it hard to put static hexagrams into context. Sometimes I feel I get an unchanging hexagram when the formulation of the question is a bit off, like a non-answer; other times it is a way of saying, this answer is still not available, but most often the period in which that hexagram will be most meaningful is about to begin, so it is a prelude to an answer.

This time I inquired about past events, so 48 unchanging puzzles me.

"What do I need to understand about what happened this last year in the process with this person to fully move on and free myself from his influence?"

Life moved on, I moved on, the heart moved on, but every time I get more fragile or have a more gloomy day, like today, the agony and the remorse around what happened return like it all happened yesterday. What could 48 be telling me about this recurrent pattern I get trapped into?

Any perspectives are thanked!
Thank you*

The unchanging hexagram calls attention to the gestalt of its meaning.
Here, consider that the deeper you dig your well the cleaner the water is.
You just have to get resourceful and dig a little deeper. The trick might not
be to put these memories behind you but rather to experience them on purpose
when you are in more positive, equilibrated or serene states. Our memories are
dynamic. When we bring them up we add the experience of the state we are in
when we do that. If we let them make us suffer all over again it only gets worse.
This is re-sentiment or resentment. If we can add the experience of a mental state
like equanimity or forgiveness it gets better instead. This process is one of the main
ideas behind the Buddhist practice of Right Mindfulness.
It's still tricky when we're down. Nietzsche said "When we are tired, we are attacked
by ideas we conquered long ago." So this is something to try next time you're up again.

That's a really useful new perspective into 48, and into my situation. Thank you! This reading made me realize how much I have been committed to being fine about it and proving myself I can let go and move on, to the point there is no space for nothing but that. Rolling in bed at night the reading came back with a reproachful tone, where 48 was "accusing me" of intending to have moved away from the city, but in fact the well is still there, like in the text, where the town's people move but the well stays. I noticed that gave me a sense of defeat, and that in turn told me how much I must be approaching all this the wrong way. Waking up to reading your insight was the perfect complement, as I feel I would not have got there at my current level of thinking - and it makes so much sense.

As I feel better I will attempt to return to the city and get deeper into those emotions I so much wanted to have left behind.

Thank you*
