Edit: Sorry, I got 60.5, not 50.6!

Hello all,

My situation is like this: I was told by my bosses 3 years ago or so that I may be looking at a promotion within approximately 3 years. Since then I have been doing well at work and have been getting a very good feedback; a year ago I was told I am still among the candidates considered for promotion and the last year has been very good for me professionally (even if not the best one overall for the firm I work for). Earlier this month I have finished a major project for the firm and since then I have been taking slightly more time to relax, rest and enjoy life.

Now the annual review is approaching (promotions are normally decided around late spring) and I have not heard anything from my bosses about my prospects. I also heard (very unverified/remote) rumours that someone else may be promoted instead.

I asked I Ching for guidance and got 60.5 (Restrictions, Foundations) -> 19.

I can see two (not mutually exclusive, mind you) interpretations. I Ching is telling me that this is still not the time to rest on the laurels and that I need to push harder for a while and get more disciplined and that I should acknowledge my own limitations. AND/OR it is telling me that I should actually lay down/demand rules/discipline/foundations from my bosses and go to them and say "Look, I did this and this and this. You told me this and this and this. Tell me what else I need to do to get the promotion". I am inclined to go with the latter (while, obviously, bearing in mind the former), especially given the nature of 19 - it tells of spring, success approaching, being now - but waiting until "the 8th month" will bring misfortune. So the time to act is now (it could also be a literal meaning - spring is now, literally and this is also when promotions are decided, so if I sit and wait the chance will pass me by?).

Happy to hear your thoughts on this one.

I think it says, reasonable or not, they expect more from you. And in my personal observation corporations lie to employees all the time to get what they want from you, although the line doesn't really say that.
Approach means it is the time for your review. I would ask them what you can do to better fulfill their expectations.
