Hello everyone,

This is my first post, though I have been reading/following threads here for some time as my understanding of the i ching grows.

Regarding a new job opportunity, I received 50.6> 32 in response to the question "Is this the "right" job for me,( or is it time for me to move on?") On the surface this seemed very auspicious.."this is an invaluable opportunity, you have something valuable to offer, persevere!" But then I started to wonder about the portability and strength of those jade handles, and if the reading couldn't also be interpreted as being in a favorable position to move on to new experiences.

It is a great opportunity and meaningful work, but I am conflicted about it--not only because of the hours required, but because I wonder if I have outgrown this type of work. I have been away from it for a while so I'm having to reassess my limits among other things. Any thoughts about 50.6? Thank you!

yes if you'll act this way:
Make use of the virtuous and able people in a way of strictness coupled with generosity, authorization coupled with discipline ...

i think it will be your last job!!! the job for the life.

Thank you for your response Patro! A very encouraging interpretation! I had an intuitive hit this morning as often happens hours or days after a reading (they sort of waft in with the breeze) that 50.6 was responding not so much to this particular job, but to my underlying fears/doubts about my current capacities. I think I was being reassured that my cauldron is strong/durable enough to withstand the pressure, which is probably what I most needed to know before making any decisions.

Good intuition there, IMO. It's a good lesson about asking one direct question without including the addendum about 'is it right for me - or - better to move on.

although today I asked two questions , the first "what if i do this" and the second "what if I dont do this"..and i got exactly the same answer! So I guess the responses dont say yes or no, but describe the elements at play. 50.6 is favorable for a strong position, but the imagery also favors a situation where you could take what you have (experience/knowledge/strength) and move on with it.

But I like your intuitive understanding and the 32 seems to favor longlasting. good luck!

Thanks for your feedback Bamboo! Yes, I think the dual question confused the issue in this case. I too find that the yi often addresses important elements/dynamics at play rather than providing "y/n" answers.

When reviewing threads in SR, I often wish that people would come back and update their threads, so I thought at the very least I should update my own :) It has taken me 4 years to do so mostly due to the fact that I didn’t have a particularly clear or specific answer--not a very tangible or linear one anyway.

Concretely, I can say that I gave notice at this position after about 6 mos and was asked to stay on a bit longer, which I did. The program was in a state of upheaval, and I experienced a high degree of overt and covert drama/divisiveness in my work environment. Rather than this feeling like a healthy challenge, it felt like a replay of exactly what I didn’t want to create in my life. I should add, that the very first reading I received for the above position was either 1.1 or 44.1 (It was a very 44 environment.) I received the 50.6 reading subsequent to that after there was a change in management and I was offered a different role.

My assessment of the 50.6 reading is that it highlighted the kind of consciousness needed to be effective in, and more impervious to that kind of work atmosphere--particularly as I experienced an enormous amount of self-doubt at the time, coupled with extreme fatigue/frustration with dysfunctional group dynamics/politics. Also, I believe that there is an aspect of 50.6 that comes up for me around having unshakable dignity/self respect, and very clear boundaries. I think Patro’s interpretation was also quite valid, but I was simply not up to the task at the time.

thank you for getting back with some feedback.. i'm not much active on the forum since a bit .. but i continue developing the Iching in life..
my preferred book and reference is the online one from tack chung.. he did an incredible job
beside his book version is not bound to the R.Wilhem translation of the iching, the one on which most of the western literature stand.

the sixth line of the 50 in Chang Tuck work is:
Line's behaviour for divinatory reference: The cauldron is equipped with a reliable and flexible lifting bar, by which the cauldron can be brought into full function; it is greatly auspicious with nothing unfavorable. After this line is activated accordingly, the hexagram becomes Heng: to endure and last long (32), which signifies an everlasting relationship (like marriage), i.e. the virtuous and able person is recruited and makes contribution to the country in return; innovation is carried out and its benefit will last for a long time. Recommendation at this stage: Make use of the virtuous and able people in a way of strictness coupled with generosity, authorization coupled with discipline ........

what Chang Tuck report as comment, was not visible for you at that time, but since your moving line was the sixth, it means that the situation was already made up.. the sixth line is the last line of the exagram meant as the conclusion or exit point, there wasn't much space for you to influence the situation, you were in this :stir: making your best to get all the ingredients to a great soup :)
moving and becoming 32 is meant to be to endure as in a marriage. joy, duties and trouble are part of a marriage..
that it would be you last job, job for life.. was just a speculation of me.

again thanks..

Hello Patro, Thank you for circling back with additional feedback after all this time!
I was definitely in a situation where I did not feel I could exert much influence on my environment. I am curious to take a closer look at Tuck Chang's work. I believe he has a website, so I will probably start there..
