I asked the iching whatever will come out of my career?
51.2-->54

I'm wondering if its telling me not to give up on the path i am on. It was an ardous climb and i'm not sure if it is the right move.
The iching is correct in its assessment of 51.2
Im not sure 54 is telling me the outcome or of the career direction i would be doing.
I would like to enter the mental health field.

Thanks for any help :)

Dear,

I think the Yi is saying that there is nothing that you can do at the moment to improve your career and the development is beyond your control. However, the situation will work out and an opportunity will present itself.

Best of luck

I think your answer advises you not to lose heart. You feel you have lost something or are not making the progress you expected. This has probably been due to a series of events beyond your control (54) that have disturbed you and made you take some distance from the whole thing (51.2). Whether or not it advises you to give up on the path you are on right now is hard for me to be definite about because your career situation now may be fitting a much bigger picture of your whole life direction and the Yi could be saying 'if you have to retreat from this (particular) path don't worry, nothing will be lost eventually' or it could mean 'hang on in there things look hard now but keep a low profile and eventually things will work out'. To know which is something you have to get a feel for with your own intuition - but it certainly looks like you have to withdraw from involvement with this to some extent, whether that is leaving or staying and just remaining a bit distanced from it all. Anyway at least there is some comfort in that whatever loss you feel (from this distancing) will only be temporary.

54. The Marrying Maiden

The superior man understands the transitory in light of the eternity at the end.

I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you saying you are considering changing careers because even though you have put a lot into your current situation, you would really rather be in doing something different? Although changing careers and going into the mental health field sounds like a huge adjustment, perhaps the I Ching is saying that in the long run you are better off heading towards what you really feel drawn to.

51.2
This line reads to me as if to say changing now would be rather abrupt, but okay in that eventually you could get another job and recoop what you might lose in the transition.

Perhaps you could also consider making the change, but not doing it quite so abruptly. Have your ducks in a row so you don't have to climb the nine hills before you're re-established.

Sounds to me like you are going to be fired from your current job, so if/when you are, just pack up and leave, as you will find another job soon enough, perhaps not what you wanted but it will give you money to pay the bills.

Dear all,

Thanks for your replies.
Currently I am stuck in limbo because the jobs I am after require a higher education. And yet I need to get a job. I am having employment problems because my qualifications are limited, in name and the fact I didn't put alot of effort, which is regrettable now.
I am totally torn, between studying and entering the career market, because I know I can't do both. If I choose the former, I will have to get a part-time job, which I am having difficulty at the moment.

Basically I am very confused and the Yi is probably mirroring my state of mind. It feels like I'm fired even before I got the job. I applied for a few but wasn't hired or didn't get an interview. Was feeling like I'm stuck in a whirlpool.

I've been doing odd jobs on and off, not more than a few months at a time, and am sick of it. I want something permanent, job wise, and yet I have difficulty finding something to suit what degree I obtained. Furthermore, applying for further studies is getting my head in a knot due to the fear of not being accepted, if I have to wait for months.

Thanks all for your thoughtful replies and advice. Very much appreciated.
I take consolation tat this will be temporary, and I will see the light soon. Maybe my confusion is why things are not going for me. Yes I think I will have to have a job that will help pay the bills.

Well, Althoz

That clarifies it a little bit, the I Ching is sensing more than just confusion here, though that is part of it, but actually a great deal of fear and trepidation. What it is telling you is to accept the situation as is. I'm not saying don't look for a job, but I am saying sit back and enjoy the ride, whatever it is.

At the risk of sounding too esoteric, which a lot of people on this board apparently fault me for, it is the deeper teaching of the I Ching that we can only achieve our goals when our mind is at ease and at peace. Hexagram 51 and 52 are a pair, and 52 is about meditation, and stillness of mind. Calmness. And this is the mental attitude, the mental toughness that you will have to achieve in this situation. "if 100,000 times you lose your treasure, don't worry about it. You go through tough times? So what? It is all part of the great play, the grand story in which we all "play many parts at many times." Laugh and smile and say, "I can roll with the punches." When the time is right, you "treasures" will be returned to you.
