Hello,
I am in the process of disentangling from a job I held for quite a few years that didn't end well. I worked for a board of directors and that relationship, particularly with the chair, deteriorated quite significantly over the past year. I have been working entirely through an attorney since the beginning of March, but I'm frustrated that he seems sloppy and doesn't seem to be giving my case full attention. I called another attorney last week and felt like his approach was much more clear and professional. A modest severance is in the balance and my means are limited so I need to conservative on costs.

I asked "What is likely if I switch from attorney X to attorney Y?" 52.5 > 53
53 looks like this could be a positive change, but I'm unclear about 52. Does the 'stillness' here suggest not taking action? Line 5 advises being very conscious in the words I use, to be calm in communicating and that makes sense. Gradual progress also sounds promising.

Then I asked "What is likely if I stay with attorney X?" 41.4 > 38
On the surface, this appears to suggest a decrease if I stay with the current attorney. That's been an issue is that he keeps recommending I settle for lesser amounts. Am I missing something?

In case it is helpful: Prior to both of these I asked how can I improve the situation with my former employer and got 37.3.4 > 25

Thank you.

Hello,
I am in the process of disentangling from a job I held for quite a few years that didn't end well.

Generally in these questions it's good if you put down the language of each moving line you get, so that we know exactly which words you're looking at.

So using Wilhelm-Baynes translations:

52.5: "Keeping his jaws still. The words have order. Remorse disappears.

If you switch attorneys, you'll get someone who ISN'T sloppy... someone who's got their words in order, and remorse will disappear. The stillness here is simply referring to the orderly stillness of a clear legal mind.

Then I asked "What is likely if I stay with attorney X?" 41.4 > 38
On the surface, this appears to suggest a decrease if I stay with the current attorney. That's been an issue is that he keeps recommending I settle for lesser amounts. Am I missing something?

41.4: "If a man decreases his faults, it makes the other hasten to come and rejoice. No blame."
Legge commentary: "Line four is magnetic in a magnetic place, like someone ailing and unable to perform her proper work. But her first line correlate is strong, and is made to hasten to four's relief. The joy of the line shows her desire to do her part in the work of the hexagram."

So perhaps this first attorney is overworked (thus his sloppiness). Perhaps if he got some help, he could get his act together and things would improve.

Liquidity,

I appreciate your perspective in looking at these casts as related to the attorneys. Most interpretations seem to reference the 'first person' and I find it challenging not to 'take it personally', ie commentary on me.

In that sense, 41.4 is still rather unclear to me. It seems to be advising me to modify myself to get support (example from Wing: "If you can now locate your shortcomings and bad habits and make a serious attempt to decrease them you will be approached by friends and helpers. A humble attitude on you part will open the way to progressive interaction and joy.") I'm unclear how I can self correct to get better support from him - and if it's about him, then I'm not sure what the advice is. Perhaps just an explanation for his sloppiness?

Any other thoughts on this?

Thank you very much.

A follow up report:

Yesterday, I asked again about the suitability of each attorney.

For X, I got 41 Decrease, again, now unchanging.

For Y, I got 62.2 > 32 This wasn't overly clear to me, but it didn't seem negative and Wing's translation of line 2 seemed very pertinent: "...No matter what kind of connection you make, it is the connection itself that is important. Hold as closely as possible, however, to traditional methods."

Still feeling uncertain about changing, I reframed the question. Rather than ask about the attorneys and their suitability I asked "Please comment on changing attorneys for my settlement situation." (More about my actions rather than about other individuals.) I got 15.5.6 > 53

Several texts refer in line 5 as a time for action. (Hilary's title of 'Integrity' seems much more fitting than 'Innocence' used in other books.) Wing: "...it may be necessary to take forceful action to accomplish your aims. This should not be done with a boastful display of power but with firm, decisive, and objective action. There will be improvement in whatever you undertake."

Commentary on line 6 speaks of 'taking responsibility for one's own destiny...'

These left me feeling confident about making the change and that it was my responsibility to do so. The fact that it included a repeat of hexagram, 53 Gradual Progress, also seemed very affirming.

Today, I emailed the attorneys that I was making the change. Unexpectedly, attorney X called me and said he supported my decision, offered to be of assistance and even lowered the amount that I owe him!

Just wanted to share all this as it felt on point and very affirming of my inner sense of the situation. I'm very impressed - and hopeful that with the new attorney my case will resolve to my benefit.
