52 unchanging. What to wear?

I'm still on a learning curve with the i-ching so I've asked this as a practise reading to help develop my interpretation skills. It is light hearted and the outcome isn't life changing (I don't think) :)

I'm deliberately not saying where I'm going as that may influence what people may say if they join in with my wardrobe decisions but I asked...

"What should I wear?" It is new years eve and I've had an invite.

I received 52 unchanging. I got the following text from a website but I'm not sure who's interpretation it is.

Regular periods of keeping still are an important aspect of personal development and forward motion. The most restful person may not be the one who sleeps twelve hours a day, but the one able to grab catnaps while cruising 600 miles-per-hour at 35,000 ft. Learning to act when it is time to act, and to keep still when it is time to keep still, is the key to obtaining the peace of mind which helps you stay focused when clear focus is needed.

Consider the spine, which serves as a switchboard for all the nerves of the body that mediate movement. When the spine is kept flexible and healthy through proper rest and relaxation, active movement can always be undertaken without strain. When the spine is held erect in a balanced sitting posture, the inner balancing of meditation can take place.

Treat your innate spark of energetic vitality like a candle in the wind you are protecting, as your only light in a dark forest on a moonless night. Avoid external conditions that threaten to snuff out the flame, and be careful not to suffocate it with your own ambitions of worries.

Time out. Relax now, take your shoes off and sit a spell. Let go of thinking. Breathe and meditate on the breathing.

It is interesting that it mentions the spine... I have a dress in mind which shows off my spine so maybe 52 is pointing towards that. I would have to wear heels with that dress but 52 mentions taking off shoes. Other than a dress, my option would be trousers with a nice top. I would wear more sensible shoes with that although my heels are comfy.

LiSe says

Find back the roots of your essential being.
One can only find one's base, one’s own territory, by turning away from the world. This does not mean to leave it, but as long as the world has any influence on actions, thoughts or feelings, one is not truly oneself. There will always be an inner distance.
Without this distance one will move in accord with the deepest self, every movement will be in harmony with the time. When the time asks for action, nothing will stand in its way. If it is time for stillness, no effort is needed to obtain it. Life is now, is here. Everything that goes beyond the situation of now and here is impairing.
When the self is strong and pure, contact with the world stays clean. Words will be true and essential, deeds will not exceed what is right, and one has a natural selection of what one accepts from others. True is hard as stone.

This speaks to me of being an individual, and not worrying about what other people are doing. If I wear the dress, I won't be the same as everybody else. Stay true to myself and don't let others influence me. If I wear the dress (which I'd like to) I won't be conforming and might stand out a little.

Anyway, as I said, this is just a light hearted interpretation for me to develop my skills. Does anybody have any opinions on what I've come up with or any differing thoughts?

I know its sounds silly from me because you are asking what you should wear but i think you are being advised to wear what you will trully feel comfortable in like for example if you wear something that looks good but you are not as comfortable in would you have as good as time, if you look at lise's interpretation then i would maybe take that as get maybe back to basics "in a way" i guess what I am saying that doest have to be boring.
So i am going to go with my first impression something that looks good but importantly that you feel good in. I mean if you feel comfortable being an individual and standing out a little then do it.
haha have a good time

Thanks Steve
It is a silly question but I posted it more for the learning curve than the actual wardrobe decision. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
I like your take on LiSe interpretation so I'm going to wear what makes me happy.

Well whatever you decide to wear, be sure to wear a good foundation beneath it, and comfortable pair of shoes.

Keeping still ..hmmm...if you ARE going, wearing something comfortable, very comfortable, something made of yersey or clinging to the body kind of cut. If it is a gathering of formal type, an ellegant silk yersey dress, if if a less formal - a corset with tith elastic pants, perhaps?
This is fun :) cheers. D.

Well, dress and (comfy) heels it is but I'll report back if I have any wardrobe malfunctions or if anything relevant to the interpretation crops up

the obvious interpretation thats been missed is 52 unchanging means 'don't go' as in 'stay still' literally.

with any question asked however small we will often get more than we bargained for so its not at all beyond the bounds of possibility its sayng 'don't go'

If its not that i think its merely saying "this is nothng to have concerns over, you are pretty much in your own space and need not concern yourself with others views of you."

BTW I wouldn't worry about going...even if i had 52 unchanging here I'd still go it just an interpreation that was missed.

As i say seeing as we get more than we bargain for when we consult it is actually always worth considering what we ask...and if we want the 'more' to come through. We can't limit answers...it won't stick to your topic of clothing if theres more to say or a bigger picture to address. Always worth bearing in mind when 'playing' with the Oracle...it won't always stick to what you asked

I don't think its referring to or describing actual clothes at all. If it was you would have got quite a different answer I think

Well, here I am reporting back... I wore a red, off the shoulder dress with black heels. You'll be pleased to know I didn't fall over in my heels and I managed to make it through a great evening without any drama.

Would you believe it, when I got to my friends house, I sat with a glass of wine while we waited for his lodger to get herself ready. She came downstairs wearing a red, off the shoulder dress with black heels! I nearly choked on my wine. At least it wasn't an identical dress, we saw the funny side and went out like twins.

Thanks for that input Trojan. I had noticed the stay still part but had overlooked the relevance as I was too blinkered by the question I asked. I'm glad I posted now as there is another bit of learning for me.

As it is, something happened (not clothes related) that would have been avoided if I hadn't gone. In hindsight though I don't mind that it happened and I think it was a fate thing which would happen eventually anyway.

Thank you all for your input, humour and wisdom. Happy new year

Hi, remember I expressed a reserve but I knew you were determined to go...on colors,
I was dwelling, kinda had, black, purple, or a flashy one in mind, but mountain would suggest something elegant and withdrawed - black, dark colored in my impression.

Good point dragona. I remember my initial reaction when I read your input. "If you ARE going" I did think "Why on earth wouldn't I be going? That wasn't the question!"

And on colours, the dress wasn't bright red, more a dark red wine colour.

Just out of interest, where does the indication of colours come from in the hexagram? Dragona and gato you have both come up with darkish colours. Is it just a gut instinct or something I've missed?

I often see 52 as bosoms, two mountains... did your red dress show yours off?

It would have been funny if you had received 23.

Oh this thread has made me giggle. I like the picture sooo especially after chingchings post!
In answer to your question chingching, I'm a legs flasher rather than a bosom flasher so the top half was well covered!
Gato, I'll be googling the colours and any other associations in a bit (more learning). I'm thinking we need to keep an eye on chingching. Chingching? Are you going to be starting your own translated version?
It looks like Steve is fancying a party. I'll give you all an invite to the next one.

lol, not likely to. My translation would only get up to hex 4 for which I would write, stop asking me questions I'm trying to read my book.

Hi, have to say that dark red is kinda my favourite, tho I did not read much on this instance, just went by impression of an aloof mountain`s image in my mind. In threads about hexagrams, cards with hexagram images were published (cannot remember now by whom) but they can be so very helpful because a picture can say so much.
The idea of breasts came to mind (2 mountains hihi) but I tried to behave and suggest a corset or somethings clingy yet comfortable because the mountain should project something visualy impressive but distanced and somewhat pensive - "Keeping still so that he no longer feels his body" in this case it would suggest to me putting attention away from the dress onto something else of inner vallue by making the clothes impressive but elegant and comfortably worn.

It would be interesting to know if the evening would have resulted any differently had you worn something else, you think?

Now that is interesting Dragona... apart from the bosom issue and thinking of mountains... hmmm

As a brief description, I'm 5 feet 7 inches in bare feet and weigh 12 stone. I'm not uncomfortable with that but I'm by no means a petite woman. I usually would have worn trousers and flatter shoes but stepped outside of my comfort zone. I wouldn't say I was a mountain exactly but I don't like to feel ungainly. I did feel elegant in the dress and while I don't think it had a great bearing on events of the evening, I felt attractive which made me feel good about myself.

The handsome guy who was six foot 3 stuck by me all night because he didn't have to crouch down to talk to me and said he didn't think he'd snap me when we were dancing! I took it as a cheeky compliment. Maybe that wouldn't have happened if I'd blended into the background.
