Hi there guys,

I asked the Yi "in what way is my career going to move forward without X?"

A friend / director whom I distanced myself from in the past 2 years called me today. Our conversation left me feeling very frustrated, as usual. In my heart I wanted to ask "will we be working together again?" but instead I asked the above.

I think I kind of get the 53.4.5 .. saying that I'll slowly see myself moving forward. Though I'm not sure about how 56 relates to it?? Does it mean my progress will lead to wandering aimlessly again? Could it relate to my aimless wandering right now?

56 is a hexagram that scares me! Though I do love travelling and hope it's positive.

I have an idea about this. Hexagram 56 is your current context. You are a traveller, meaning you have no fixed abode, with respect to your career. You are seeking opportunities. The traveler must keep her/his mind fixed on the destination, while being courteous and open to experiences (or lodging) along the way. You are keeping true to your own career goals and opportunities. 53 indicates a process leading to marriage -- in your case, marriage might be,in your career, having a steady project to work on, with this director or another. Maybe the Yi is saying, that your conversation with the director is part of a gradual process of affiliation, with him, and in your career. While you are looking for just a "branch" to rest on, in the end you are cultivating relationships, so that you can be fertile in your career. And the relationships are worth cultivating, even if the process of "conception" or being fertile -- in your work -- is a gradual one. It will happen.

Hi MoonCatcher,

You shouldn't be scared of 56;) It has got this impermanence quality, the idea that all things must pass, that sort of thing. In your case, it is actually pretty reassuring as a relating hexagram, showing that present conditions are not here to stay, your concerns, what you perceive as a difficult time in your career, the sense of loss for not having this link to the friend/director.

I had a lot of 53.4.5 > 56 in the past, when I was going through a long period of not settling anywhere (I have settled now, I hope :D ).

So, I understand the awkwardness of line 4, not really knowing where you stand at the moment, career wise, and the isolation of line 5, feeling that somehow things are difficult to achieve. But as a whole I do like this reading, because it develops, even though it might feel at bit slow at times, but the progression is there.

Hope that helps a bit :bows:

Just a few words to advance Mirian's and Loverofknowledge's points of view.

To me 56 reiterates the idea of searching for one's own way, moving alone, without crutches - the way full of doubts and challenges. Probably, you feel that it's high time to start/to continue your own way, therefore you asked the question you asked, not the other. 53.4.5 shows that you'll overcome difficulties of the way, though it will take a long time.

Hi Mooncatcher,
Just to say, that in my experience hex 56 can be quite literal, that you will travel a lot. Secondly it can also mean, as the text says, that you are in an inferior position as a guest.
Best wishes

Mirian, thank you for sharing your experience of this reading.

the sense of loss for not having this link to the friend/director.

Yes that's how I feel. Scared of losing this connection but knowing it's absolutely necessary for my growth.

Juliah, "moving alone, without crutches - the way full of doubts and challenges" that's an uplifting and realistic feel of what this whole thing is about. :)

Gnichi "that you are in an inferior position as a guest" rings so true for me. I'm tired of being his guest on his projects and have decided if we can't work together, I'd rather not see him at all. You hit the nail on the head.

Thanks to everyone for feedback! :)
