Hi, all: Still fretting over whether or not I will hear back from a very influential person in New York, whose help I need greatly with an important project: I am at this point ready to be grateful for any form of feedback or receptiveness at all from him.

I hope it is soon, because it has been my experience that when these things sit for too long, they simply vanish, stop being there.

I had a brief email exchange with him on Friday; he asked for further material and I sent it: the ball is in his court and I feel it would be obnoxious to keep contacting him further.

I asked the I Ching, "Will I hear back from Mr. X with any form of encouragement within the week?" and received:

54.1.5 >47.

I think the lines are about adapting, being willing to have a lesser position, being subordinate and compliant. Lame, but able to walk. Not outshining the ruler. Not presuming in any way.

H47 is not a favorite of mine. :( Here is Ewald Berkers, whom I greatly respect, take on H47:

47. Confined

Confined.
Progressing.
Persistence of a senior person brings good fortune.
Without fault.
There are words that are not honest.

Being confined. There is progress. An experienced person can turn this situation into good fortune. There was no mistake. This being entrapped will make one not be entirely honest to try to get out
.
I already think I may know what the dishonesty is referring to....I informed him that I have already set up a reception in NYC, which I have, but I am actually trying to withdraw from this first plan, and get him to take on a simpler project, (no monies required) . Without any clear interest or commitment from him, of course, the first plan must keep as it is. I have made sure to say very little about this, only one sentence about something in the works.

Any input will be greatly appreciated as always.:bows:

I must confess I did ask a second question, "Do I have any reason to expect aid from Mr. X?" and got
64 1.2.5.6 >17, with the cryptic Berkers saying:

64. Not yet Across
Not yet across.
Progressing little.
The fox, being nearly across,
gets his tail wet.
This lacks a beneficial purpose.

There is a last step to be taken to conclude things, but it cannot be done yet. So only little progress is possible. Impatiently trying to make the last step anyway will only get one into trouble.

so am assuming that i must simply wait, be receptive, I cannot force his hand or be pushy in any way...

I think you should be wise and very tactful when dealing with that person as you are in the position less favorable...and look for aid someplace else, also as waiting look like a scenario here for me also.
Good luck, d.

Thanks, Dragona. Yes, it would be foolish both to push aggressively, or to count on this one person, whom I have no control over.

Yes, waiting is tough, as one does not know whether to make other plans or not, so a back-up plan would be a good idea. thnx :)

Sure, I will give it a whirl:

How may I secure the unequivocal support of Mr X?

52.1.2.3 >41
JAMES LEGGE TRANSLATION AND COMMENTARY:

The first (bottommost) line, divided, shows its subject keeping his toes at rest. There will be no error, but it will be advantageous for him to be persistently firm and correct.

The second line, divided, shows its subject keeping the calves of his legs at rest. He cannot help the subject of the line above whom he follows, and is dissatisfied in his mind.

The third line, undivided, shows its subject keeping his loins at rest, and separating the ribs from the body below. The situation is perilous, and the heart glows with suppressed excitement.

The situation is shifting, and Yang (the active masculine force) is gaining ground.

The future is embodied in Hexagram 41 - Sun (Decrease):

If there is sincerity in sacrifice, there will be great good fortune, freedom from error, firmness and correctness that can be maintained, and advantage in every movement that shall be made. In what shall this sincerity in the exercise of sacrifice be employed?Even in sacrifice of two bowls of grain, though there be nothing else, may be presented.

Surprising, because I have been fretting that I only sent him a couple of small things, and ought to have sent big showy elaborate things. I guess with 52, I must maintain a restful attitude??? I also think in the imagery of 41, Mr. X is the towering mountain, I am the lower lake....

54 > 47 seems like being in 2nd place and confinement but I
believe Yi is reflecting your disempowered state. You are in
second place because you are the supplicant and it is out of your
hands

In the second response is it not that you should be still ? and
you have done enough ? - why should you offer more? This is
where your power is - taking Yi's reassurance that your 2 small
bowls are appropriate and that after 41 comes 42 increase. Methinks
you will get your reply
