I'm not sure what you mean, that you got 'mutant lines'? You just got lines, and if you think they are odd, mutant, not fitting somehow, could that be a reflection of how you feel about the situation?

54 is describing a situation where one's feelings have lead one into a very quick situation - or relationship. That by itself might work or it might not. In your case your relationship didn't work out, so the I Ching's response might be asking you to consider (perhaps both in looking back at this relatinoship and as you might consider a new one):

* how not seeing or thinking clearly might be helped by a bit of reflection, contemplation, even retreat until we can see more clearly (54.2)

* to not be a servant to instant gratification - or in the case of this reading, to expect instant responses? (54.3)

* that a bit of waiting or delay may not always be such a bad thing (54.4)

* that you both need to have a bit of 'skin in the game' (perhaps willing to sacrifice, or to be real) in order for it to work out.

Some names for the related hexagram 22, are Adornment, and also Embellishing. The image depicts a fire or fires at the base of a mountain, so perhaps to consider how seeing clearly might lead to - or can support - a more lasting, steady relationship? Also, the idea comes to mind that we each have to be our own light, that no one can do that for us, even though we sometimes think 'the other' can.

I sometimes think of adornment in a bad way, like someone putting on airs or too much makeup. But 'adornment' is central to nature - after all what are flowers and brightly-colored birds doing if not adorning themselves. So perhaps the advice here is to be aware of when adornment is needed or useful and when it might be used to deceive us or hide something from us - to make something or someone seem what they are not.

Best, D.

So, you're saying that you have broken up with this person and they are now with someone else, and now you are wonder if you should get on with your life? That seems like a no-brainer to me. I don't really know what else to tell you.
