I asked if I should give up on a dream of mine that I've been aiming to fulfill for a few years. This question is career related. I received 56.4.6>15 which could be saying Yes, move on or be realistic with my expected outcome. Any input??

Should I give up on a dream?
56.4.6 > 15

The traveler of 56, in my opinion, is traveling on public business, and hexagram 15 is about leadership and initiative as the line texts, but not the title, suggest. If you are able to take a position of leadership and initiative in fulfilling this dream, then persevere, but if you are depending on others for fulfillment, it may be best to go on to something else.

Hi Pocossin,
Your answer sparked a "knowing" inside of me. I do feel like I'm capable of being the "leader" and am willing to. I guess I'm going need to get busy in order for certain doors to open and stars to align, so to speak. I'm not doubtful at all, just a bit realistic because I want to be fully effective and I realize that it takes a lot of experience to lead and I am honest enough to admit that I don't know "it all" with respect to this "dream". I guess me being a leader will give me the power, as the overseer to designate accordingly to those capable of administering what I can not.

It's funny that you should mention depending on others for fulfillment because when I first embarked on this "journey" I had everyone else in mind (along with myself, of course). I've learned valuable lessons along the way which have been all about self love, truly believing in myself and living for ME. I am realizing that it is quite healthy for me to put me first (aspirations, feelings, etc.) and not feel guilty.

Prior to reading your response I asked the Yi for an outlook on using a specific, "one man show" alternate approach to aid in fulfilling my dream and received: 47.5>40 which resonates with what I stated above. Do you have any thoughts on how this relates?

What do you mean by "Public business"? Also, interested to know why the title isn't true to the texts meaning? I'm a bit confused by that..

Hi BellaBall,

I believe this is telling you to be persistent and persevere without being 'over the top'

All the best

You're very welcome.

I'm curious, even if you had a clear "yes, you need to give up" - would you?

It's your dream, live it.

Legge and Hilary translate the title of 56 as traveller/travelling. By "public business" I mean the contrast with domestic business in 55. The word 'wandering' is often followed by 'aimlessly'. That isn't what the hexagram means.

15.0 The superior man carries things through.
15.1 He may cross the great water.
15.3 He carries things to conclusion.
15.5 He attacks with force.
15.6 He sets armies marching.

Sounds like a Patton. Not modest at all. To be modest in the ancient Chinese sense is to consult the spirits and follow the will of heaven, which Patton did. The title is good, but its typical interpretation isn't.
