Hi, I am curious about how the hexagram 58.4 is interpreted in the context of a question about desiring someone. Does it mean a yes, or a no - it shows ridding of mistakes. Does it mean the person is ignoring the lust they feel, or is it showing platonic feelings? any insight is appreciated.

I think it shows someone weighing up options as in 'is it worth it'. Not very flattering in regard to a relationship as if someones thinking "shall or or shan't I" rather the way you might with a cream cake lol. I find it a very inconclusive line not indicating yes or no but indecision based on a weighing of pleasures or possibly other considerations. How much will it cost in terms of all kinds of expenditure, emotional, time, commitment etc
So directly in regard to your question if it is about lust i would say the person is quite well aware of their lust but also well aware of conditions that may go with satisfying it and they aren't sure yet its worth it.
58.4 isn't blind passion, it changes into 60, regulation, self moderation...I feel there is a touch of decadence with 58.4, picking and choosing where you get your fun

in the context of desire your reading seems to point to caution and control. desire is certainly present and if one looses their centre then this can be a door for suffering. desire or "lust" indicates this shift to a certain degree - caution is advised leaning in the "no" direction but forcing a restraint could be equally damaging. suggestion: "talk about it".

Thank you, both. Those were very good answers. Trojan, choosing a cream cake, lol, that was a good description. The person seems very cerebral in their approach. That means they use their head more than the other hah.

It seems like this person has an internal locus of control. Cardioeros, its a good suggestion, thank you.

So, desire is present, but control is the main theme.

Thanks :)

The person in question is restraining their lust because they realize that it will not give them what they want, they will only feel empty and unsatisfied. They want to find true love, something that will satisfy them for many years to come. One night stands are exactly that, here today, gone tomorrow.

Thanks willowfox :) does that mean they want true love instead of lust with the same person?

Yes, because lust is not fulfilling in the long run, there is so much more to a true and lasting relationship. Lust equates with a one night stand with a prostitute.
