Hi

Has anyone had experience with this line? I have just recently cast it.

It was in relation to a new project I want to launch.
The project is an article writing exercise for some particular business niches.

I asked what i needed to know? 58.1.4.5>7
I was a little unsure at first if I am suppose to forget the idea, I then asked should I pursue the idea?

48.2.4.5>62
This I thought was fairly positive except maybe for hexagram 62, however worth pursuing.

Trying to get a grasp of the information, i started to think 58.5 was advice not delve into negativity. I suppose by even asking the oracle I am doubting to agree. I was looking through the threads and noticed that some advice and general feeling on the line were fairly negative.

Its a warning I think about negativity however I may be wrong. I haven't had drink in six weeks so I thought possibly that may have something to do with it.

9 at 5: Sincerity towards stripping is dangerous.
Stand your own ground, don't let yourself be contaminated. Not by people, thoughts, feelings or actions. Be they your own or from other people. Many are difficult to see, because they are generally accepted.

Wilhelm/Baynes: Sincerity toward disintegrating influences is dangerous.

Anthony: This means we are sincere in listening to negative ideas, such as the temptation to pursue self-advantage, or listening to doubt, impatience, fear, or pride, as in “having rights.

There is no person as such connected with the project, to be honest thats why I thought of it as 80% of the work will be in my hands.

It is confusing , for example what about if I was asking about a partnership or joint venture? Would this be advice to forget it or to stop freaking out.

By the way I am pursuing the project.

Has anyone had experience with this line?

The edit post button is not working I meant to say by even asking the Oracle I am doubting to a degree. Instead of by "even asking the oracle I am doubting to agree."

Steve,

Some names for Hexagram 58 are Satisfaction, Joy, and 'Expressing Heartiness,' or perhaps also heart-feltness. Bradford Hatcher's take on it is that it also includes wisdom and 'enough sense to stay out of trouble,' and also the ideas of mutual consent and the benefits of exchange (perhaps of ideas, goods, information).

Within that context we have Line 58.5:

Trusing in the unsustainable, there will be struggles.

From a strickly (and perhaps extreme) Buddhist perspective, this might be saying 'everything is impermanent, so put your trust in nothing.' Being a bit more pragmatic, however, I take this to mean that we should accept and expect people, situations, or things to act according to their own qualities and temperments.

I think you'd have to figure out, in particular, what that means for your cast and your business - or possiblly post it in either the Shared Readings or (if you are a part of) the Reading Circle to get others responses. But in a business context, I suppose it could be about attitude and expectations : e.g. don't expect cheaply made parts to work or last; don't expect a flaky employee to meet their deadlines, and so forth.

And of course, we're only looking at this one line in isolation. To gain it's full meaning here, we'd have to consider it in terms of the entire query - and the original inquiry and all the other lines, hexagrams, trigrams and so forth that are part or that.

Best, David.

Thanks for your input.

I don't think I need to get more clarity hence the second reading, however it did really throw me off.

I agree the line does depend on the question asked and the other factors,

I read a thread where someone had met a potential someone or was wondering if there was anything happening. The advice was that there maybe something not quite right with the person, the querrent had no idea what that could be.

I have to admit that I would be scratching my head had the Oracle not been so direct in the second reading.

I only looked at the one line, which if nothing else could be offering good general advice about hiring good people and using good materials, anything that moves you away from what is 'unsustainable.'

Wilhelm/Baynes: Sincerity toward disintegrating influences is dangerous.

The more i think about this line the less I think its an external influence, its internal. The longer I consult over my life time the answers are becoming less superficial. I am starting to believe there no bad readings, its all advice and i should be humbled (modest) for that.

Thanks Steve, I do not disagree, and my take on it was just trying to fit into what I understood your question to be about.

But just looking at the line, - freed from a query or question - I'd say it could be about both (or either) a response and/or an influence, and either of these might be internal and/or external.

I think we have (liftoff) agreement here. David.

Best, David.

Hey David

I was just thinking the line may at times or be a warning not to trust yourself, or that dark side of yourself.

I was just thinking more of some kind of general sense of the line. The position the line is in the hexagram surprisingly it's not very positive.

Congratulations Steve.

I am not saying it does in this instance,
but 58.5 could refer to booze, or an unreliable person or thing. (something that cannot really sustain one)
