For those who have had problems understanding 59.5, what's happening now in a few places in the mid-east is a perfect reenactment. It's the dissolution of a regime, the king in a big sweat until he decides to call it quits and distribute the wealth and power.

Thank you, Bradford. That is quite illuminating.

Many have written about 59.5 that a fresh idea is needed. I guess that means a fresh governing idea is needed.

Under the Irish Constitution , when the Prime Minister announces his intention to dissolve Parliment , he must then go to the Presidents palace and advise the President , who usu. then issues a proclamation dissolving parliment and a writ to hold elections.

A Parliment must be dissolved and a general election held within five years of first meeting , although it can happen anytime if a government fails a vote of confidence.

But what if the president is a tyrant who might chop off the head of the prime minister for being the bearer of bad news? I think the president would chop heads, if he could.

But 59.5 says that if the prime minister can muster the courage to get over to the president's palace, the whole situation might yet improve. Improve a lot, actually.

59 - 64 Dissolution but not yet

On 22 nov the Green Party government coalition partner , announced it was withdrawing support for the gov. therby forcing a general election , but not yet. First they wanted a Budget , a Finance bill and IMF funding. all of which could take months.
Then in January against a background of six ministerial resignations , a drastic cabinet reshuffle , and numerous ministers assigned dual portfolios , the Prime Ministers own party lost confidence in his leadership. The PM then held a press conference announcing his resignation as party leader , but not yet as Prime Minister. The parliment went for it , on condition the business of the house be concluded in a week , and it was , necessity being the mother of invention.
And so parliment was dissolved and the elections are today.
While I was watching all this unfolding I got this cast 59.4.5 - 64
It was an open cast , no question or context.

TV reporter : which politician would you invite home for dinner ?
Woman in the street : I'd poison the lot of them.

When observing politics, we need to keep a healthy sense of humor ... People acting in groups often seem ridiculous.

59.4, dispersing them, in order to gather them back together later

59.5, important official announcements being made; new ideas needed

And behind it all, perhaps a question of how much to get involved in the news of the day, these broadcasts.

a bit off topic but related to 59.5 . .

Today some of my colleagues and me had to sit in through a class (as part of further teaching education) that happened to be about Euripides 'Helen'. One of the characters in the play is that of Theonoe (a second name literally meaning 'divine mind' because she was supposed to have received the gift of prophecy by Nereus) who, upon making a crucial decision, begins the speech by saying:

'Within my heart there is, as nature meant, a great temple of righteousness,
Nereus legacy passed on, which I will honour'

it was a phrase the teacher repeated a couple of times with a lot of zest and upon listening to it, I was reminded of the 59.5 line . .

Um... who else is a Buffy fan? Brad, right? :) 59.5 was Yi's description (yes, I asked) of the moment in the last episode when she has the power distributed among all the Potential slayers.
