I have been going to this singing school since almost when it opened and it seems they always wanted me to move to accommodate someone else so a few weeks ago they had some story where the girl supposedly had my teacher before me so they wanted my spot. This is ridiculous since I had the teacher since she first came to the school.

I told the owner I didn't want to change. So yesterday I get a call telling me they gave my spot to her and would give me a spot on a different day with the same teacher. I asked the yi why they gave my spot to someone else.

I got a 59 unchanging.

That really is a clear answer! They just wanted to get rid of me.

No, I read it as they thought it was the right thing, the best thing to do for everyone.

You have been moved to another day which is inconvenient, but there's something going on with this other person's life I think that they are trying to accomodate. You still have a class with the same teacher, yes? Sometimes if another person has a situation, they cannot explain it to you for privacy reasons, but only ask you to cooperate. Takes a little faith, when you don't know why, but the reading says it's nothing to do with egotism, it's the exact opposite.

thank you for taking the time to reply. there was no other day for me with the same teacher. If I wanted to continue I had to go with someone else.

the other times they gave someone my spot; they called me right as I was pulling up to the building telling me I would have to wait an hour. I get in there and the student wasn't even there and they came in and it was a couple of teens. I never saw them again after that.

Perhaps it's as simple as, since they got away with it before, they keep doing it. Maybe they are just trying to develop the business, branch out, hence 59 unchanging. So, they are taking for granted that you are already a loyal customer. Is that possible?

"Why did they give my spot to someone else?"

Well Ewald Berker's "Eclectic Energies" iChing translation says

59. Dissolving
Progressing. The king grants there to be a temple.
It is beneficial to cross the big river. It is beneficial to persist.
The situation dissolves, it will stop being there. This is progress. It is a good idea to start with something else. Make good use of what has been given. It is good to persevere.

WIlhelm's translation comments about gently breaking up blockages of energy and dissolving egotism that separate people, through religious forces (sometimes music is so described in the Yi.) A group class? Anyway maybe this new teacher is a better fit for you than your old one.

The Yi says the change is "progress", for the better. Maybe the old teacher is moving on in a couple months, and they don't want to announce this to everyone or something yet? I don't know, but often in life what looks like misfortune initially turns out to be a good thing.

That is possible. I guess they didn't expect me to say no and in the end I told them I wasn't studying there any more.

That is all possible too. It is a shame I had paid for an entire semester with them. Maybe it is best I move on to another place where I feel respected.

I see the original thread was posted back in 2012. I just discovered I Ching and this website and this is the very first post I came across. So I’m curious to learn what the outcome of this situation was. I wonder if you shouldn’t take a literal approach to analyzing the situation. I wonder if the wisdom being bestowed here is more for you to look inward rather than outward at the situation. I wonder if being moved to another teacher, or even another school for that matter, actually resulted in an improvement and growth in your singing abilities. The rigidity and sameness of working with just one collaborator (the teacher you had been with for so long) perhaps was causing you to plateau in your skill development - and you fighting against being moved to another teacher was reflecting a state of inflexibility that was holding you back. The wisdom I see here was pushing you to just keep singing! Sing your way through this obstacle! And perhaps you’ll start to slowly reawaken or “warm up” this skill of yours in ways you never thought possible. For only under the pressure of change do we rise up to evolve. While those who heed not, remain unchanging.

Hello Raredonut and hello to all, I am also new to the forum and I think like you, it would be interesting that people who ask for help to interpret their queries come back to clarify what happened. It would be a good way to thank and help everyone understand the Yiying better.
