I've had a week of hexagrams with no changing lines, which I quite like, always seems to give me a definite simple answer. I another post I mentioned 17 in response to a question about how I should proceed with a particular relationship, and I asked (in relation to the same relationship) how will things unfold over the next 2 months, and received 64, which once again made perfect sense, as this is the beginning of a new cycle, and things are moving from disorder to order, but probably won't get anywhere particularly different fast.
But today I asked, 'what do I need to understand about myself in relation to this situation'? I got 59.
I think this makes sense to me, I like Huang's description: "The inner gua is water, its attribute is danger. It symbolises one's vital energy blocked within. The outer gua is wind; its attribute is penetration. Penetrating and breaking the blockage leads to dispersion."
I'm aware of being frightened of being hurt and holding back to prevent that from happening, this made me think that its time to let go of a little bit of the ice! The other bit of 59 seems to be about having faith "the king should arrive at the temple to pray and ask the blessing of heaven", and confidence "He has self-confidence so he is able to live and work in peace" (which often right now I'm not doing because of worrying about what might happen...).
Is that right? Thoughts appreciated :)

Gives me the feeling of 'the master' ignoring a repeated question. But of course you always DO get an answer from the coins and this answer might say that you should show sufficient self confidence not to ask a question twice (?).

I know what you mean, though I see (more and more) the whole of I Ching as a way, with texts that are neutral rather than corrective or whatever. Kind of hard to explain without sounding like a blind follower, but still ...

Women tend to want men with self confidence. (Though it generally means something different to them than it does to us.) If that is what women admire, why not show some confidence themselves, and not hold back out of fear? Just a thought to put out there.

Hi Gene,
Thank you for that. I think in this situation, you are exactly right. I've been worrying and worrying about something which is absolutely fine, and doesn't need worrying about. So I do need to just be confident in myself and chill out a bit! I've been doing just that and its much less emotionally exhausting, and more fun.

Love the translation you quoted from Huang, very insightful. It's a mysterious image. Very cool to get this unchanging puts the onus back on ourselves.

A heads up. The thread is from 2009, 14 years old. Edge, the starter of the thread was last seen here in 2012, 11 years ago. Lloyd sadly died many years ago.

So if you are talking to people on old threads just click their name you can see when they were last here. The longer ago it is the less likely they will ever see your post. Also bear in mind many regular posters here have died over the years. Checking out the date of the post before writing to people is a good idea and then clicking on their name to get an idea of if they are still about also a good idea before writing to them.

In general someone is much more likely to see your post if you click on the 'like' or the 'thanks' button as then they do at least get a notification I think, an alert that will make them look at the thread. Otherwise they may never see it.

Also if replying to a really old thread it's good just to say 'I know this is an old thread but....' since it alerts others who may think the thread is current and start replying to the original question which can be a waste of their time if the querent is dead or not here any more. Any time someone comments on a thread it brings it to the top and so people think it is current. In the past many times people have replied to those no longer here because someone just added a comment a decade or so later.

Some of these old threads do have gold nuggets buried deep within them. Glad you found one.
