61 unchanging

Hello my I Ching friends,

I asked if an action I am considering would be endorsed by the powers that be
( I do not mean by people) and I recieved 61 unchanging.

Some authors commentaries reference an ability to 'influence' or sway the pigs and fishes,
others do not. If 61 indeed has such a component, is it really a stretch or even arrogant to assume my sincerity on the matter could sway ... X?

Be open Moss Elk, don't try to use force and remove any prejudices you may have - only then will the correct solution be reached. There's also a lesson to be learned about your own inner truth. - Liss

The word truth can be misleading here since the implication is more of a universal truth. In fact, it's more of a relative truth and an individual perspective or point of view. If taken too seriously, without looking at other perspectives, it can degenerate into narcissism and solipsism. Too "inner" a truth is not a good thing. You are only going to influence piglets and fishes (sons and daughters) by understanding things from their point of view. This is why it's worthwhile here to cross the great stream, to get past, over or outside of ourselves.

The judgment is "good fortune," so it seems reasonable to think sincerity can hold a lot of sway whether just planting the seed of an idea or actually getting through to someone. "Finding the right way of approach" is also a part of 61 though, so for example, discerning right timing or knowing whether a direct or indirect approach would be more effective might be important. Also, what starts out as a good intention may unwittingly get heated because it can also have to do with handling emotional reactions (lurking transferences and shadow sides) as well.

Ultimately, I think the powers that be say that should you choose to take the action, there is value in what will be revealed (hopefully more about your strengths than weaknesses).

Hey, Moss Elk.

I've never seen 61 so much about influencing or swaying as much as tuning in, as you really can't be objective about someone or something, including yourself, until you tune in to that frequency. Taking action before this tuning in is complete can lead to misunderstanding and resentment. There's always a waiting period before making a final judgement on the matter, so you can settle down, get ego and such out of the way so your judgment is objective and clear. Then you can act and resonate with the frequency of the one in question, be it pig, fish, human, or yourself.

I personally think that 61 unchanging in answer to your particular question means; whatever action it is you're taking - if it's centred in truth and integrity - the power's that be will support it. If however, it is something selfish and manipulative - the truth of your actions will come to light.

Be direct. Keep it simple.
