needing a little help decoding this one. 62 has never been a hexagram that resonates with me, so I seldom get clarity from it.

brief scenario: a friend and i have a rocky relationship. I really appreciate his creativity and his energy, but he can be really erratic, moody, temperamental, and not really empathic to how he is impacting me. Our relationship seems to go in cycles. I however tend to be quite passive, largely due to his unpredictability. He will initiate contact and we hang out for a couple of months, then BANG he does something weird, and we go back to not talking or connecting. Then a couple months goes by, and he toddles back into my life. It is however getting to be a bit much, to be honest. And is beginning to feel disrespectful to me. He is used to roller-coasters -- me not so much.

I asked Yi: what does he want from me? And got: 62, changing lines 1, 2, 5 to 43.

62: Could be small steps to an end or the end of a journey. Nothing big. "The small affair". I am not really that important in his life so he takes a "whatever attitude".

line 1: not sure how to read this in the situation
line 2: not sure how to read this in the situation
line 5: well, he comes back into my life (hit with an arrow), but he is largely shooting in the cave to see if he will catch anything. Connection, disconnection, reconnection. At the point of re-connection, it must feel like a shot in the dark.

43: proclamation or decision.

In short, I got nothing. Help!

Hi Ace!

Would love to help but my limited knowledge of the Yi does not allow me (I tried having a look at the hexes and changing lines and making something out of it... in vain). Just wanted to let you know I'm reading and wish you all the best. I hope someone else will shed some light!

I think I got it

hmm ... after sitting with this for a little while and being stumped, I think Yi was answering my question, just on a different level. One that would give me greater clarity of the situation.

62 I think was correct. I am a small affair in his life and in his wants. Insignificant.

62.1 The little bird is not careful. High/low, causing damage to himself or other. Not consistent, not aware, not caring to himself or others OR ME.

62.2 I am used as a older more stable "female" force in his life. "Stable", "female" are operative. But, it is not an honoured place in his psyche. It is the place of using or serving. "meeting one's grandmother".

62.5 Although it looks like I am going to get stable, caring, respectful friendship, it does not come. "Clouds, but no rain".

43 this is a result to the above lines. In this circumstance, 43 is the outcome FOR ME. There is a decision or proclamation is for me for me. As in, Yi is throwing it back at me to say ... these are his wants or positioning ... now what are yours?

Interestingly, when I asked Yi about what my attitude should be ... clear answer.

56.1 > 30

56.1 The stranger is causing a ruckus (trivial and petty) ... disruptive, chaotic, and petty. Not seeing how his behaviour is creating this calamity. Not caring. But, it is my life into which this chaos is brought. It is my garden that this traveller is stomping through. His chaos becomes mine.

30 I think my mind or life or attitude must start to discern more carefully ... to capture or allow the Bright Moments or Birds to impact ... but discern or filter or have insight or awareness (doubled) of the chaotic and petty and trivial ones. Let the trivial go through my mind's net, as not relevant, not important. But, be aware for the relevant moments, and capture those ones.

Not sure if others see something else ... but this is how I now see my initial challenge. Not sure why I wrote it here ... maybe it will help another, I guess.

PS All of my interpretations are from LISE's site.

Thanks Cris

Thanks Cris ... I most certainly appreciate your thoughts to my issue. Perhaps our collective attention to the problem allowed me into the insights I gained. So, thanks for your attention and thoughts. I too am just a beginner.

Ace,

your interpretation of your first reading, and the insight over the second, make a lot of sense to me. I don't think anyone else could have come up with such meaningful answers to your questions.

I have always, naturally believed that deep inside we know what we need to know, it's just a matter of achieving consciousness of it. As well, we have what we truly want, even when it's pain and confusion and disruption. It's great that the Yi has pushed you to consider what you want from this relationship.

I wish you plenty of good luck with your new proposition! :)

Six at the beginning means:
If the wanderer(you) busies himself with trivial things,
He draws down misfortune upon himself.

now, you just have to figure out what is trivial.

laughing ...LOL ...

I too wondered if if this answer pertained to the field of my own mind. And, the stranger was indeed triviality existing in my own mind. That these trivial and petty and insignificant thoughts were blocking clarity or consuming my mental timber. Kinda, if the fire of my mind is burning (30), then let it be about important and pertinent concerns, and NOT the petty and trivial ones of late (56.1). In short, the word for this reading is ... discern. Exactly as you point out.

Thanks gato!!
