Hi, I wondered if someone would kindly show me that I am on the right path!

I asked which would be the best way to approach my work for my up and coming exam. I got 64.1 before completion moving to 38 opposition.

64.1 He gets his tail in the water. Humiliating.

a)Its quite worrying. I think 64.1 is telling me not to go at it with all enthusiam as my high expectations will amount to ruin! Ultimately whatever I do, I will only achieve little success.
or
b)perhaps it is saying that the best approach would be to try not to over extend myself and concentrate perhaps on a just a few subjects as opposed to all and then I will achieve success ?

If a, then I am thinking of asking what the outcome would be if I cancel the exam somehow, and take it at a later date, (though this is not ideal).
The obvious thing to do would be to put the Iching down and do some reading! :rolleyes:But I just wanted to know how to maximise getting the best out of my studies!

Well, line 64.1 says that you are in too much of a hurry to complete your studies/exams and therefore you are most likely to fail, so this line is advising you to hold back as it seems you are not ready to take those exams yet.

Hex 38 says that you are not on the same page in your studies and it will take time to get them right.

Thank you Willowfox.

It's very worrying indeed.

Mmmm. The exam is in 8 days time....I am on holiday from work until then specifically to revise, but Equity & Trusts is a huge subject. I shall still try - bearing the guidance/warning in mind and return to the same question in a week. I will keep you all posted.... !

Hi
The yi is strongly suggesting that the way you are going that yea, it wouldnt be a good idea to take the exam
I tend to agree with you that yea u could study for the next eight days and maybe see how you feel then.
If there is a certain time frame that you need to cancel in, then maybe you should hold back and get it right

64.1 says the fox rushed across and its tail got wet. It did across safely but this is an embarrassing situation. 38 says there is a conflict.

Together this is like the person who races ahead and cuts past other drivers, just in time to have to wait for the red light!

QUOTE]

The reading all fits into place now that I stressed and rushed and did everything I could but became ill as a result!

But before the above happened, I decided to try a different approach and consulted the IC asking: 'what should I do to get a first (excellence) in my exam'.

I received 2 Kun, unchanging.
Furthering through the perseverance of a mare.
If the superior man undertakes something and tries to lead,
He goes astray; But if he follows, he finds guidance.
It is favorable to find friends in the west and south, To forego friends in the east and north.
Quiet perseverance brings good fortune.

GO ASTRAY
Indeed, there was an overwhelming amount of work to get through, guidance was needed to know which corners to cut and what to really focus on. (Lecture revision 1): We had had some guidance from our lecturer on 6 subjects to concentrate on - but this did not make a difference to the amount of work required.

NORTH EAST and WEST
My friend, who lives in the north east of London (I live in the west) said that he would concentrate on 4 subjects. The day after I received 2 KUN, there was another exam revision class (in West Central), my friend in the NE said he would not be going for he knew what he needed to know and it would be a waste of 3 hours and 2 hours journey time. I thought of the Iching and thought -it will waste time but i will go and not take advice from friend in North East!

GUIDANCE and FOLLOWING and ASTRAY
It was valuable I went. Again the IC words rang true. The lecturer spent 3 hours telling us he despises students who try to think creatively in the exam - they MUST FOLLOW the question he stressed. He wants to see the exact cases and law pertaining to that particular question. Nothing more and nothing less. They must be receptive in what the question is asking and stick to this. Identify the issue and then proceed. This is what gets the good mark. He showed examples of passed marked papers, the students had written down everything they knew, it was a jumble, he told us the students had gone astray and although they knew their stuff it was irrelevent because they were marked down for the irrelevant detail. The lecture also explained the importance of linking sets of cases to each specific subject. But the ultimate point of the lecture he said was: Figure out what the question is asking, answer only that.

QUIET PERSEVERANCE
So I knew exactly what to do. I switched off the world and got on with revising exactly what I needed to in the manner I was told to and I believed I would be on my way to FIRST! But then I started to become very tired after short amounts of reading.

Which brings me to my original reading:
Time was of essence, I had now 6 days to revise...but I kept feeling tired when I revised. Opposingly, I felt the need to cut back on sleep at this late stage, not have continuous naps. I knew what to do and how to do it so now I should persist to get it done. Stay up late, rise early etc...

RUSH, WET TAIL, Embarrasing
Today I decided to stop and not go further because of the implications suggested. The onset of which I am experiencing now.
I have a condition which does not flare up often for me, but when it does it can be an embarrasing condition! (Crohns affects the bowels! Tail wet?!!!!), it usually flares in extreme stress, or if I have lapsed in medication.

I should rest physically and mentally, not study. If I rest I can propbably bring it under control and be able to return to work next week; If I exert myself study my flare up will deteriorate very quickly to the point where it will take weeks and extreme medication to bring it under control.

Thus in rushing and in following the guidance to its core - I would have needed to really push myself to the ground - I would have got to the exam and know what I need to - but in rushing across the water - my condition would have so deteriorated to the point of confliction with my exam -confliction because I would be in too much pain to concentrate and would spend a lot of my exam time asking to go to the Ladies.

I agree, good feedback.

Something I'd consider here is the nature of 38, which represents your unique qualities. Those qualities don't always fit neatly into the qualities of institutions or other individuals. It's important to give your qualities sufficient room and authority.

A primary quality of 2 is openness. It would seem that something which is not yet decided or completed (64) could benefit from remaining open.

This is an important aspect of hexagram two sometimes overlooked. Its shadow side if you like. I found for myself it comes up when it really is best to shown no initiative, to simply follow procedure. This isn't always a happy experience, can feel rather 36ish. For example in some rather unpleasant interview situations it doesn't refer to being open in a relaxed receptive way but being like a mare following the set questions, offering no information thats not requested - just as you were advised by the lecturer.

It's true, for if i had my inherent way...I would have probably approached it from a creative and open stance, which is in opposition to what was being asked. The subject guide book says that a creative well thought answer gets a first, but the tutor warned us against even trying for a first as it was unrealistic- we would only go wrong because by creative they meant something new that no-one (researchers, professors, etc) had ever thought about, i.e. near impossible! He also said a first was exclusive and usually only one student in the year achieves this in equity and not necessarily because they had been creative.
Thanks trojan and meng for your thoughts and comments
