Hello Fellow Seekers,

I'm back with another question that involves my novel - Here Be Dragons. A highly recommended publisher has asked to take a look at the novel - this based on a story I sent in which she rejected for various reasons but really liked my writing and said she looked forward to more proposals from me. So I wrote her two lines about my novel, not even a proper query or synopsis, and she said she'd love to look at the whole ms and not to bother sending her sample chapters. So here I am with butterflies in my belly again! I drew today at around 8:30 pm - Indian time (June 15) hex. 64 - lines 1,2,3,4 changing to 22. What do you think will be the outcome? 4 moving lines confuse me!

Hex 64.1 this line suggests that you slow down and take it easy, don't rush.

Hex 64.2 suggests that you check your MS, make sure that everything is correct before sending it off.

Hex 64.3 now is the time to send your MS off to the publisher by airmail.

Hex 64.4 now that you sent the MS off, it is a time of waiting for an answer, you will have to struggle to remain calm, so be strong and determined and don't give in to negative thoughts, your MS still has a major battle to undergo, but hopefully you will hear something positive within the next 3 months.

Hex 22 suggests that the book has grace, beauty of content but the IC suggests that you will receive success only in small matters, so I am wondering if the publisher will say that your book has no depth and needs a rewrite before you can achieve a bigger success with it.

Thanks Willowfox! What's the IC? As far as depth is concerned, its' inspirational and part two focuses on the spiritual growth of the protagonist. But a rewrite may be in order. It's amazing in its accuracy though for my intention is to look at it again and I am expecting some feedback from an author who's reading it now.

I find this very interesting. I don't like to read for others because I believe the I Ching's responses are personal and the recipient of the casting is the most qualified to know what the answer is.

However, whenever I receive 22 from the I Ching, it's always represented writing, and I've always assumed it was a very personal response until I just read this. 22 in response to writing for someone else too. Wow.

A collegue!

What a surprise - a fellow writer! May I say the title of your novel sounds marvellously - "Here Be Dragons" (WOW) - a wonderful Feng Shui, a Chinese would comment. As for your hexs, I partially agree with Willowfox: 64 means to me you are on a difficult but somewhat successful path; but 22 seems to say you will only achieve partial (unfortunatly not substancial - not "the real thing", so to say. It is truly possible that your name will be not unknown anymore to publishers, and you'll earn some respect as an author. But it is difficult to desume from IC you'll surely end being published, or selling lots of copies) results. In my experience as a writer, anyhow, you simply cannot tell which way success will come: so every chance deserves to be caught, for it may be the right one. Go on, my dear! And good luck and kisses.

This reminds me of LiSe's "Catching the bird of brightness", her title for hex 30.

If you don't mind me asking, how did it ever work out for you with those two publishers?

I am not sure, Bruce, if you are asking your question to me or to Circe. As for me, the situation is now both complicated and unsatisfying... All contacts I had with publishers went wrong; but, nonetheless, my novel is still being read (and therefore still not refused...) by the two biggest publishers I reached, and I am waiting for their answer. In the meanwhile I recently published a small collection of my poetry, which has been somewhat praised; and by which I am taking part in two poetry competitions (one of them so important that I have no chances at all - but we all have to try..). But I had problems with my agent about poems - he refused to promote the book, and tried to persuade me he could not be held to do so because it was beyond his contract (as I am a lawyer, the point for me was that he just insulted me by ignoring my competence). I am confused, filled with doubts; but mostly I am FURIOUS. After many years of underestimating myself, now I know I can write (I am not a genius, but definitely I CAN write). So why the hell they do not let me do my work? As you see, Bruce, it's a long way to success... Kisses, Vassilissa

Hi, Vassilissa.

Yes, I was referring to your earlier thread.

Sorry things haven't connected for you yet. I understand how frustrating agents and publishers can be for a writer to contend with. It's good that you're fired up and believing so strongly in your ability and your work, though. A writer must have passion, yes?

Keep plugging away. I wish a great opening appears for your work, and most of all that you remain inspired.

Thanks for the kisses. ;)

Hello Vassilissa,
Pleasure to meet another writer! My title is already there I believe so now I think I will call it The Truth about Dragons which I think is more intriguing. Thank you so much for your tip. Parisopen- I think 22 is definitely about beauty whether in writing or art or people, so I have hopes for the novel which I am working on now - hard work, but worth it. The publisher is very happy that I'm looking at it again before sending it in. I hope you have great success Vassilissa! And I will keep you posted.

Nope - it didn't happen with the publisher. Maybe some other. I have decided not to publish this novel as it's got too many people I know in it. I don't want to make others uneasy with my writing. So I've given up on this one, but my first novel - "a hilarious romp through myths both ancient and contemporary" was released last year by an American publisher. An e-book, it'll be paperback soon.
