Work question, and possibly dramatic. The head of my organization (job) is an utter troll. He is making absurd rules and running out the best people.

The army? Probably all of us banding together to oppose him. We will. There is also another person in authority who is likely to support us (the King?), but he does not have the authority of the the Troll.

The lines;

Line 1
'The army sets out according to pitch-pipes,
At odds with the strength of the army – pitfall.'

Line 2
'Positioned in the centre of the army.
Good fortune, no mistake.
The king issues a mandate three times.'

Final hex: Return.
Does this mean I'll quit and go home? Or that the problem can actually be solved? Comments welcome!

Hi Danubegal,
One interpretation could be that you are called to play the role of the leader of the "army" (all of you employees). Line 2 is auspicious although line 1 points to some initial difficulties. Line 2 suggests that the leader should take care of all soldiers to have success. Maybe you should not quit but take the initiative and lead your colleagues to ask for some changes.

Let me follow this up by saying *all* readings on this topic suggested that I might succeed by communicating with my colleagues and basically ''mobilizing the army''. But the individual at the top had carefully taken advantage of a situation where several full timers were away and most of the rest very new to the organization, so understandably weren't familiar with the background story. They were also afraid of losing their jobs, so at least in principal (if not in practice) they agreed to the changes, though none actually understood them. Only one long term colleague was willing to abstain along with me, and his job was also in peril, though he is still there and I am not. SO, I think I misread this reading, and line 1 turned out to be most apt. The army was indeed summoned by pitch pipes, and I was at odds with it. I hope this retrospective assessment might assist others!

Thanks for the update. What was the actual question?

Thanks for the update. What was the actual question?

The question was about what would happen if I kept up my challenge to him about the enforced changes to syllabi that I and some others were unhappy about. It turns out (looking back on my reading) that I should have stayed in the middle of the army and not struck out so vehemently on my own.

Ah, so this reading would emphasize the importance of the 7.2 having the support of the people but in this case the people were 7.1 not all in agreement. It helps give me understanding that 24. Return really does mean step back to where it's safe. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...NOT!
