8.5 > 2: Where do I go from here?

Just got some closure regarding an old relationship that's been hanging over my head for years. Now that it's indisputably over (at least from my end), I asked the Yi, "Where do I go from here?"; I received 8.5 changing to 2.

I take this to mean that, as lonely as I am, and as much as I think I'm going to be alone forever, I shouldn't chase after anyone. Sooner or later, if I'm lucky, the right person will come to me and show clear interest.

I agree with your interpretation. Whatever belongs to you will come to you. There is no place in your life for people who want to be out of it. Don't try to hold anyone. Accept what is coming.

This reading is not saying for you to be a plankton.
You shouldn`t force anyone.
But you should still employ the three flanks.

Very true! I felt there could be a chance I was missing something (I'm very fearful about relationships, so I'm inclined to be too passive), so that's why I posted here.



I did a second casting today, along the lines of "Is there anyone out there for me?", and I got 16.1.2 to 54.

I think this reflects the inferior position I find myself in (54), and it's saying that hesitating, such as by asking the Yi superfluous questions, is interfering with my progress (16.1). Only if I heed the warning in line 1 can I progress to line 2, or so it seems, where I eventually achieve some sort of harmony after working continuously on the obstacles.

I like being able to discuss this with you folks! It still amazes me that the Yi even works.

Hexagram 16.1.2 > hexagram 54.

Hexagram 16.1 is about showing enthusiasm before there is really anything to be enthusiastic about and hexagram 16.2 describes controlling enthusiasm. All together I think the I Ching is cautioning you to spend a bit of time stabilizing, getting clear on who you are and how your life works before getting caught up with someone else. Otherwise, sure you could give up all sense of self and just hook up with anyone like some powerless Marrying Maiden but that isn't your best option!
