Hi there,
being seriously stressed about my financial situation, I asked, 'will my finances improve?'
and received 8 unchanging. Bit confused but 2 ideas: wondering if this is encouraging me to improve things by seeking relationships with others, working with others? Its a them that's come up before...
also wondered if this is talking about my mind, re-examining how I see the situation, and my approach to it?
So I asked, 'how do I get through this?" and got 56:3, 6 to 16, which left me really stumped...is it a warning not to annoy people or be arrogant? seems to be a theme of travelling too...I would so appreciate some help in working this one out, its not looking good from where I'm standing...
Thanks!
E

for some reason, 8 unchanging seems to signify holding together with the way things are, therefore not an improvement if things stay the way they are. or if you remain where you are.

it seems to me that the latter reading states that what you have been doing up to now is no longer working for you, and a new approach is required. This time past and the ways you have been working/things you have been relying upon are not sufficient.

i have the image of John Muir with a knapsack on his back hopping over the back fence. getting on the road. the happy wanderer. seeking new horizons.

Thanks bamboo, your thoughts are very much appreciated. I suppose the difficult thing is knowing what to do differently now! I have no idea whatsoever but hopefully something will occur to me...

I think the overall advice of 08 involves cultivating some humility -
In the image, the waters gather in the lowest place. Laozi has lots
to say about this. Water follows its affinities and flows to where
it belongs. Maybe your job is to figure out where prosperity belongs
and meet it there.

To try and get some more clarity I asked 'I don't know what to do! Please help?' and received 19.3 to 11, which seemed to echo something about realising what I have been doing so far isn't working any more, but if I have real regret and move on things will start to change, 11 baffles me a bit, and I'm feeling no clearer...
I thought Lise's interpretation of 19:3 was interesting though:
"When you are 'nice' to others, they will inevitably disappoint you, because you expect something back. Be yourself, that is the only way to give something of value. Only then you really give, and only then they really receive. The exchange will be full of life, for everyone involved, so you expect nothing, you already get plenty."

and also 11:
Tai is about imploring for favors and blessings and receiving abundance and prosperity. If you ask the gods for blessings, you will receive them, because you open your mind to see them. Some people find things in places where many others went before and found nothing. Happiness is the result of a state of mind, and going to Mount Tai is to find that.

In practical terms though I'm not sure what this means, any thoughts much appreciated!!

Thank you Bradford, I will give that some thought, it does seem to be a theme. Do you think humility is about asking for help?

Hi Edge,
It's hard to not know what to do..esp in matters of finance. maybe there is a time now of doing nothing...harder than figuring out what to do is letting go of the stress, giving up the battle (for now) and let the water settle. sometimes asking for help is akin to the state of announcing "I just don't know what to do next" and being okay with that. To me that resonates with 19.3.

I have often gotten line 3 and 6 together in hex 56..and although it sounds dreary, I have come to see it as a point of surrender.. the past is done, what's ahead is not clear yet. and that can be the beauty of it. when the bridges are burnt behind, there is only the "open highway" and a lot of vague possibility...but little actual knowing of what lies ahead...every new journey begins with just taking steps...enjoying the wide open feel- a trust in the unknown. not all who wander are lost. (seems very 16ish)

matters of finance often have a way of opening out to new possibilities when we let go, when we least expect. that's been my experience! all the best to you.

thanks Bamboo, reminds me of a bit of japanese calligraphy I was given years ago, which roughly translated means 'just because you can't find your way, doesn't mean you are lost', probably worth remembering right now!

Just a bit of feedback...this morning I asked for help, from someone who has been a real mentor to me (and coincidentally provides business support and advice!), who I am going to see on Thursday, then this evening was talking to a colleague, who gave me lots of advice about new marketing strategies and some new leads when I told him I was struggling. As a result I spent the evening designing a new range of products, tied into a new marketing plan, and drew up a plan of action. Will see how it goes, but it does feel much better trying something different!

Barter comes to mind. During colonial times, various established border lords and peoples would exchange goods, serving the needs of both tribes or colonies. It may not look impressive on a spread sheet, but it keeps everyone going during difficult times. It also encourages creativity in the area of inventions and new approaches to problem solving. Then there's the exchange of information and culture.

So I asked, 'how do I get through this?" and got 56:3, 6 to 16

Starting backwards from 16, the background of the question is visionary. 56.6 gets swamped and overwhelmed in the many details and makes mistakes, the young soldiers in line 3 merely cover their tracks and move, laying low awhile, until the coast is clear. This bespeaks wise and prudent action. Now, back to the future (heh) to 16 again. It is vision which creates it. So try not to get too bogged down in how things look at the moment. Stay excited and optimistic. There's no guarantees, but it sure improves your chances.

Thanks Meng, what you say makes a lot of sense. It does feel like I need to be sensible right now but create a really strong vision for the future. Am feeling much less bogged down now anyway! :)
