I feel silly for this, but I did it anyway:eek:
Really struggling on so many levels..almost feels like the light of my soul, that which has sustained me through so much, is burning out.
So I asked the IC: What does God want from me?
Response: hexagram 35.1-->21.
Line 1: overcoming obstacles? yeah, ok..that's clear given the disproportionate amount of absolute garbage which has been thrown at me this year.. but geesh I'm only a mere human..and a rather beaten down one at this point I might add.
I'm certainly trying though..but I'm reaching total exhaustion from the effort and just don't seem to ever get anywhere...
21: being caught between two powerful forces? yeah, it feels like i'm permanently snagged in the vice grips between good and evil.
If this IS to be the purpose of my life, I sure wish I'd at least been granted some kind of super-power to assist in the battle:rolleyes:
Apologies in adbance for the negativity of this posting. I typically try to remain positive and optimistic....but I don't have it right now. However, I still hope to hear some thoughts and insights into this one...I'm certain the darkness I'm surrounded by is tainting my ability to really hear Yi's message.
Thank you.

(Sorry about using just the first part of your name, but it is too easy to misspell, so I hope you will forgive me.)

As far as the reading goes, the first part is just describing the conditions you find yourself in, and it is a very understandable condition, one that we all go through from time to time but some more than others. The first part says, "progressing, but turned back." Often in life we want to go a certain direction, but we see our way is blocked, (see hexagram 39) and we see no way to progress any further. (I had that happen over and over again when I was younger, and didn't realize that sometimes we just have to keep attuned to our goal and wait for conditions to change.) So we go to the next part of the answer which gives us some hope.

The second part says, "Persevering brings good fortune." Almost always the first line tells us about the beginning of a situation or an enterprise, when things are not yet fully formed. We have to start with the little things, and accumulate them until they turn into big things, (see hexagrams 45 and 46.) The beginning is not easy because the goal seems far away, and ironically, it seems even farther away when we are in a depressed state of mind. So the first thing is to let go of any negativity in our state of mind, (see hexagram forty seven line one, where we "sit under a gloomy tree, and see nothing." A depressed state of mind actually changes our reality for the worse, and when we realize it is our mind that is causing it, we can slowly begin to recreate our circumstances. But it does not happen over night. It is only with perseverance that things begin to change. The universe always tests us, to see if we REALLY want what we think we want. In hexagram forty seven it is not until the "man with the scarlet knee band approaches, (the turn for the better when our minds are ready to accept it) that things really turn around. Everything is a cycle, and we have to wait for the cycle to turn once again. Of course, that does not mean doing nothing. See hexagram three line one for an explanation of how to deal with the beginnings of a situation, and to deal with a time when things seem very difficult.

Finally, the line says, "if one meets with no confidence, one should remain calm." This, of course, is the difficulty and the difficult part, for how can one remain calm in the midst of a storm? And the answer is, you just do it, because while outer circumstances are negative, (they give us no confidence), we, within ourselves, have complete confidence in the ultimate outcome, for we know that within ourselves, if we seek it, there truly is peace and calm within our higher selves, and we become attuned to it.

Everything cycles, and what seems dark and gloomy now becomes the greatest joy once the wheel has turned. There is an old hymn, which I think has great implications for us in our lives, that goes, "Be still my soul....through thorny ways, leads to a joyous end."

Very well spoken Gene. I love your response.

I faced such circumstances in life as well and it did usually turn out to be the precondition for a joyous time. Last year i faced Hex. 36 and that was desperate time though i managed and today i am thankful for it because i matured a big deal and feel much better, stronger and have more self esteem than anytime before in my life.

I like to add for Hex. 35 that the lower trigramme is Earth and if the first line changes you have a situation like in Hex. 2.1 which is (the approaching) winter time. A time one can not do much more than waiting for spring, consolidation. As well it is a symbol for something frozen (inside?) In Hex. 35 the upper trigramme is Fire/Sun/thoughts/mind and it is shining bright.. your head pushes you forward but something, either the time in general or something inside?, keeps you back. However, to me there is a gap somewhere....

Hey K, long time!!!!
Here's how I see, you wish to overcome your obstacles, but there are hindrances, it's not easy. Don't give up! Bite through, use your strength. Don't doubt your capacity to overcome all of them even if some don't believe. Go perseveringly until you reach your goals. Don't lose your calm or courage. Believe in yourself, you are great.

Hi Lilly

Not too long ago, I put a post somewhere (I wish I knew where) about how the lines in hexagrams one and two are the prototype for all the changing lines that are following. So, yes, you are absolutely right about the relationship with hexagram two line one.

The only place I recall reading about that was from Hilarys Blog here. I think you may have responded to it perhaps

No, Trojan.

I did discuss it recently. I also discussed it on this website several years ago.
