Good!

"Still to interpret "hope" as being a distraction does seem to solve the riddle of the poem."

More riddle for you

hahahahaa! You mean you don't have an answer?

I'm really curious what you mean by your statement. You wouldn't deny an honest seeker a clear answer, would you?

Hope as a distraction from what?

The Seeker finally makes it to the mountain top and approaches the Wise Sage.
"You have a question my son?" says the Holy man.
"Yes, Master. It would give me great peace if you could tell me where is this, our vast universe?"
"Ah, Gentle Soul," the ancient one replies, "Our Universe is surrounded by a great ball of golden light and that ball of light rests on the back of a magnificent enchanted turtle."
Hearing this the Seeker thanks the man profusly and begins his journey home. But halfway back to his village a second question occurs to him so he turns around and again he ascends the himalaya and seeks the advice of the yogi.
"And now, my child?" says the master seeing the chela once more.
"Yes, Dear Teacher," he answers, "Please, can you tell me what is this magnificent enchanted turtle standing on?"
"Ah," smiles the kindly Saint, "Why he is standing on yet another even more magnificen enchanted turtle."
"Oh!" The beginner smiles too, "Thank you, Good Master!' And thus he begins his journey home once again. And yet...as he is just within sight of his own pastures a third question troubles him and so once more he turns and seeks the foreign land. And when at last he has again climbed the mighty peak he humbly approachs the old hermit.
"And yet again, Young Sprout?" murmurs the enlightened one.
"Yes, please Most Beloved, if it's not too much trouble..What is the even more magnificent enchanted turtle standing on?"
To which the Sage replies, "Look, Pal, from here on, IT'S TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN!"
