As the footie fans on this forum know very well, tonight there will be the Championsleague final between Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. For the sake of practicing my way improvable predicting skills, I casted a reading on this event.

Question:
"Will team X win the Championsleague?"

Wilhelm on 61.3:
He finds a comrade.
Now he beats the drum, now he stops.
Now he sobs, now he sings.

Team X's strategic approach to the match would appear to be a bit confused, leading to a very open result. Maybe there's a hint that the team will lack the unity required to put in place it's playing tactics.

9.3 as the fan yao reads:
The spokes burst out of the wagon wheels.
Man and wife roll their eyes.

Wilhelm's commentary on this line is perfect for the question:
Here an attempt is made to press forward forcibly, in the consciousness that the obstructing power is slight. But since, under the circumstances, power actually lies with the weak, this sudden offensive is doomed to failure.

My take is team X will not win. The interpretation based on Shao Yung's method (which I used to cast the reading) confirms this negative outcome through consistently conflicting relationship between the hexes' trigrams.

Anyone care to give it a try? :) I'm going to disclose which team X is after the match ;)

Line 61.3 describes the football fans very well, they sing, they chant, they bang things, they cheer and they sigh, they are all as one.

Hex 9 suggests they will be held back by the other team, so the otherside will win.

Hey WF!

I trust the cat and the parrot are doing well :) So you agree with my interpretation. We shall soon see how this goes!

Waiting for further bets from other Yi (and footie) followers ;)

Two reasons. First, I wouldn't want anyone's interpretation to be biased by knowing which of the two teams X is. Second... pure, medieval superstition. Team X is the one I will support tonight, so I'm hoping to be completely wrong!

So what do you reckon, Mazaru?

I think WF is right. Team X will not win.
I drew 9.3 once when I asked if Sven Kramer was going to win a skate off. He made a wrong turn by faulted directions of his coach. So that doesn't look very promising.

I think 61.3 tells that team X will not function very well together, they will not work as a well oiled machine and therefore will not win.

They are singing now, I wonder if they will be sobbing later?

So, the game is over: Inter won 2-0, and is therefore the new champion of Europe.

Inter was also team X.

I am puzzled. Did we misinterpret the reading? I'm not sure about the traditional interpretation; the one according to the Plum Blossom Method was however unequivocal.

Anyways, as anticipated, I'm happy I was wrong! :)

I didn't watch the game, so can't comment on that specifically.
61 - Is about self belief and trust. As Wilhelm says
"The attributes of the two trigrams are: above, gentleness, forbearance toward inferiors; below, joyousness in obeying superiors. Such conditions create the basis of a mutual confidence that makes achievements possible".
61.3 seems to me to describe Jose Mourinho to a tee.
62.4 looks like a counter attacking strategy needs to be utilised in opposition to win.
With regards to 9 - The situation is not
unfavorable; there is a prospect of ultimate success...
and 9.3 - says Mourinho expected an easy victory but that wasn't the case.
Perhaps anyone who saw the game could "make it fit" better.;)

It would appear that the answer lies in the translation of line 61.3 itself, which I failed to notice.

Line 61.3 translated is drumming, (the kick off) stopping, weeping and finally singing because the otherside disengage in the battle.

Hex 9 indicates success but not immediately, but with "hindsight" this could indicate the game itself, it starts off quietly for Inter, slowly building up until the "rain comes from the west", and they win.

This query is especially difficult because what you are really asking is, "Is 61.3 > 9 an auspicious casting?" My opinion is that, when unrelated to the events of life, no casting is inherently auspicious or inauspicious, so the query does not permit an answer. Suppose you had asked, "Which team will win the Championsleague?"
Then the situation could be related to the casting and a suggestion of auspiciousness found. This is after the fact, but I would approach it like this:

The casting gives two hexagrams, the first representing the situation and the second the outcome. In terms of a football game, the first is the competition, the second the win.

Hexagram 61 pictures a nest.

Code:
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄ ▄▄
▄▄ ▄▄ the hollow in the nest
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄▄▄▄▄

The nest-like object in the given situation is the bowl-shaped Santiago Bernabéu stadium, somewhat rectangular like the hexagram. Line 3 is the line of struggle and competition. Willowfox nicely associates the noisy behavior in this line with fans at a football game. The resulting hexagram is a shoe:

Code:
▄▄▄▄▄▄ heel of shoe
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄ ▄▄ opening for foot
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄▄▄▄▄
▄▄▄▄▄▄ toe of shoe

The toe points downward toward the origin, so Shoe is associated with "return" in lines 1 and 2. The team that is the more 'returning' will win. The answer is written large somewhere in the big picture. Where could it be? Well, the name "Inter" suggests movement . . .
