Saw the discussion on 21.3 on another thread but didn't want to hijack it...How would you interpret 21.3 in the question Why doesn't x happen?
Thanks

21.3 means to me:

Bite into leftover meat, encounter poison. This is slightly uncouth, but it's not your fault people irresponsibly pursued their individual interests.

Other people failed to do what they should have done in a reasonable time - like serving food when it's fresh. Some people might have even done something destructive, like adding poison - so long ago it's been hidden like a bad spot in old meat. Take a bite and you might have to spit it out, how rude! But you're not the one who did anything wrong.

Why doesn't X happen?

Because other people failed to do A through W, long ago, before you ever arrived on the scene. In fact, some people sabotaged a few of those items way back in the past. Expecting a reasonably fresh meal, you bit into an old, poisoned mess and had to spit it out. Trying to solve the problem would only give you indigestion. Any reasonable person should be able to see that you're not the problem here.

'Why doesn't it happen?'

'Biting through dried meat,
Coming on poison.
Small shame,
No mistake.'

Because what those involved (could be you, of course) would have to get through to make it happen is really old and tough. And not only that, but if they persist in tackling it, they 'come on poison' - some unexpected nastiness that's been festering away here. At this point they might have clear insight into what's wrong, but lack the means to put it right.

Speculating like this with only the question to go on is good practice, but if you could tell us more about the background later, that'd be helpful. :)

After looking round the line pathway a little more... perhaps 'small shame, no mistake' indicates that despite some embarrassment at not being able to fix the problem/ overcome the obstacle/ make it happen, this isn't such a big issue as it appears at first. Perhaps you might just as well not worry... maybe it won't need fixing.

Well, following Hilary's suggestion, I will put this question out in the open. The question was Why can't I get pregnant?

I also posed another question (What condition needs to be fulfilled for me to conceive?) thinking that I might be able to decode it by myself (yeah, right!) and got 31.1>49 Your insight would be great! Thanks

It gives the idea of a biological problem, some internal thing that has been "out-of-order" for many years and therefore requires that perhaps you need to go and see a doctor.

Hex 30 gives the idea that the egg is not being fertilized for some reason.

What condition needs to be fulfilled for me to conceive? 31.1>49

I believe that there is a continued need to keep trying, so when the time is ripe it will happen.

21.3 as a response to this question makes me think of possible environmental factors. Conception seems a perfect physical example of 21's 'uniting', and then Yi says there is 'poison' in the way - hard not to think of physical factors.

But 31.4 doesn't. It suggests you're just busy processing this huge transition with all its implications, and sounds to me as though conception as well as friends will 'follow your desires' when you're good and ready. So maybe the 'poison' will come up and be worked out as you 'come and go' some more over your decision (and also follow Willowfox's advice ;) )

I am so grateful to both of you. :) I knew the problem is physical/biological (I have consulted a doc), so when I asked the i-ching I was hoping to get some insight into whether there is a mental issue associated with it, that I could work on. You've helped me immensely. Thanks so much!:bows:

I agree with the medical interpretation. Could there be some kind of environmental toxin you were exposed to in the past, which is the root of the problem now? Or maybe something about nutrition, herbs etc. that could clear up the problem? Perhaps something that Chinese acupuncture + herbs could offer to complement your regular doc?

The reading really has a feel of "something outside your control." That would mean it's not caused or cured by your state of mind.

ben_s~my mom used to give me the pill when I was little cause I was growing so quickly...she didn't realise that I just took from my father's side. I also lost one ovary some years back, and that's definitely compromised my chances. I am trying with acupuncture and herbs to balance my system. But I'm glad it doesn't sound like something's wrong with my attitude. Working on it has paid off! Thanks :bows:
