Hi friends,
I have a small tree in a pot and since 14 years I move it indoor every winter. It is small because it is in that pot, otherwise it would grow into a very beautiful tree. To see it develop into it's full potential I should put in the soil in an area with a warmer climate than the one we have here where I live. That means give the plant away. There's somebody who would take it, but I feel indecisive because I dream that soon my financial situation will change and I would be in the position to move somewhere else where also this plant could live happily.

So I asked the Yi: How to proceed regarding bedding out the plant? and received 58.1.4 >29.

I recognized in it my indecisiveness, but I cannot see a clear picture of how to proceed. :eek:uch: Is anybody there with some experience of 58.1.4 >29?

I thank you so much! :bows:

How to proceed regarding bedding out the plant?
58.1.4 >29

58 suggests that you delay action for the present, and 29, that you discard the plant in the future if its growth is impaired. I am dealing with a similar problem. I have two pots of Clivia whose clock is off, and I have been unable to re-set it. They should bloom in late January but instead are blooming in May and June when I have plenty of other flowing. My plan is to store them without water in an unheated room until they set flower buds or else. I do not know anyone who would want them, but I have had them for thirty years and am sentimentally attached. 58 > 29 does not suggests to me that your financial situation will change so that you will be able to move to a warmer climate because Kan is the trigram of winter in the King Wen arrangement.

Hello Pocossin! :)
Yes, we grow attached to plants in the same way we feel attachment to people, animals or places. To me plants are not objects, and this particular one I'm concerned about it's a friend whom I know very well (in the form of seed it entered this place with me in when I moved here), I've seen it sprout and grow and be beautiful, and I would love if it could "settled down" somewhere.
I will wait. Maybe next year, or maybe the one after that, but one day it will have it's proper place where to grow.
It's interesting what you tell about your Clivias. I'm in no way an expert, but what you plan to do sounds good to me. Still, I feel curious about the why they flower in May-June. Whom or what are they in tune with?

Thanks a lot for you post. :bows: All the best!

It's interesting what you tell about your Clivias.

Many flowering plants require a period of dormancy in order to bloom. Dormancy may involve the plant drying out, cool temperature, and reduced light. The Clivia needs to become dry for months, so I understand, and to have a cool temperature. My mistake, I think, is that I feel sorry for the dry plant and water it, but my interference is keeping it from growing properly.

Pocossin,
I burst out laughing when I read your reply. I've done that too, I thought that too, I felt that too for some bulbs! I was thinking how can I possibly not water the poor things, live them in the basement in the dark and all alone... But, as you say, resting the whole Winter made them flower beautifully in the Spring! :)

You should not give the plant away now.
Hex.58 means that your tree is growing happily not(although it is small), Hex.29 means that if someone takes it away and plant it in another place, it will die. Because Hex.58 stands for happiness, while hex.29 stands for danger.
Further more, this result also shows why the tree will die after it is planted away now. The changing line is line 1 and line 4. According to I Ching, line 1 and 2 stand for earth, line 3 and line 4 stand for human, line 5 and 6 stand for heaven. Line 1 and line 4 have changed, this means your tree will die because of a wrong man and wrong area.

xuensongyu,
thank you so much for your detailed comment. :bows:
I'm glad to know that the plant feels good in it's pot and that can remain happily with me!
You thought me something precious I didn't know about how to look at the changing lines.
Thank you so much

29 The danger of too much water ?
58.1 Changes to 47 Dryness where the water of the lake is drained away. All the joy and pleasure of 58 is gone temporarily but for a purpose.
58.4 Changes to 60 Regulation. Literally the joints or nodes of a bamboo or yarrow plant. The idea of following the standard regulations and the rhythms of time. Water over lake.

May not answer the question but looking from other angles sometimes provides inspiration.

60 Jie 節 has the plant radical and 47 Kun Confine 困 is a tree within an enclosure. Plant in a pot ?
58 is Autumn 29 Winter from the later heaven arrangement.

The nuclear hexagram of 58 is 37 family home indoors. If its happy in the pot why not keep it there. Bedding out looks risky.

Thanks for your input, Peter. :bows:

I must say though that a doubt comes up in me: I asked the Yi how to proceed regarding bedding out the plant, so I take the outcome to be about "how to proceed".
I imagined that the Yi would answer something meaning "Do not proceed" if it would be better for the plant not to undergo such a change, but in this case I cannot read a clear "no go".

I'm actually still confused... :eek:uch: My understanding of the Yi is very limited, and I wonder if I'm also too strict in my expectations. At the same time I think that the Yi is answering to me, to my limited understanding and my narrow views. If I would understand it more, probably it would answer with a different Hex and different lines... Just wondering :bows:

Nigel Richmond:

1.Joy of inner wholeness. Good fortune.
4. Calculating joys brings restlessness. Discarding the error brings happiness.

Don't plan to be happy in the future, it's silly :)
Be happy here and now, where you already have 'Joy' with your tree.

Dear Emiliana what have you done with your beloved plant?
Today, 28/1/2016, I saw your post, and allow me to write my very different point of view:
For me, hex 29 is the situation of your plant, gets in then gets out, it feels frustrated in "repeated chasms", it cannot grow to its full potential.
But that condition will change, like lakes joined together, the plant will be moved to another place which it will be good fortune for the plant! (hex 58 1st moving line)
You will make negotiations about the whole thing, you will be restless, but finally, after considering and dealing with all potential afflictions, everything it would be solved and the plant will be happy! (hex 58 4th moving line)
I don't know if you move together, you should ask about it separately.
But the plant WILL MOVE TO ITS HAPPINESS!
Please, let me know....

Hi Windrell,
right these days things are becoming ripe. The owner of the flat where I live did not renew my contract, so after sixteen years I HAVE to move by mid February, with plants & cats & all. I can go and live in a flat that, in the meantime, I inherited from my mom, further South, at the seaside, good climate for the avocado :). So it will finally be able to sink its roots in the soil! I'm happy to know it will love the move.
Your interpretation seems to be spot on!

ashteroid,
never say never! Really.
I was raised here in the North of Italy and although where I'm moving is a very nice place, my heart stays here, at the feet of the Alpi, and I hope to come back here again.
I started to suspect that what's happening to me has been actually masterminded by the avocado :D to have its dream come true, and it's pushing me to a place where it can eventually be at home. Once it will be settled down, I'm sure I'll be free to move again!
Maybe also your plants too will be pushing you somewhere tropical... :)
