Achilles injury?

I've been having issues with my achilles tendon. Fine, rest it. But I have a half-marathon that I want to do in 4 weeks...this would be a great personal accomplishment, something I've wanted to do for quite a while. This injury I did rest for a few weeks, just cross-trained, and went back to running almost two weeks ago. Today I set out to do my 5 miles and ouch! I'm in some serious pain. After two miles I turned around and walked home.

I'm furious and panicking at the same time. What am I to do? How will I be able to do the race if I can't even train?

I asked, "What do I need to know about this injury?'

31.3.5.>16

31.3: I want to keep going, but that would be impulsive, wouldn't it?

31.5: Remain strong, be firm. Rest again for two weeks (I can still cross train - nothing seems to hurt it but the impact of running) and then get back out there again.

Anyone else? Am I interpreting correctly?

To continue is humiliating.

Definitely give it a rest!

31.5
The influence shows itself in the back of the neck.
No remorse.

If it's not a whole heck of a lot better in two weeks don't force it. You can't influence the situation just by wishing things were different (I'm saying that because Wilhelm says here, "what takes place in the depths of one's being, in the unconscious, can neither be called forth or prevented by the conscious mind"). Let your intention be on healing whatever time that takes. You wont regret it.

16.
The whole grand marathon. Go and enjoy it whether you are a runner or a cheerleader!

Curious? Did you hurt your tendon in the process of training and/or regular exercise or it came out of nowhere? Have you been taking any antibiotics lately (in the past few months)?

The Short Run and the Long Run

H16 is unbridled enthusiasm; the elephant needs a rider, a controller, to get the best use of it. You don't want an elephant running amok. It might cause injury and damage unless someone or something is controlling it.

H31.3 counsels that you restrain the impulse to run as a "rash action." Humiliation will result if you con't control your emotions.

H31.5 indicates that you have firmness and strength of purpose about running and that your impulse to run will endure over time. The reference to time seems to me to be about a longer scale than a few weeks, perhaps many years, so I interpret this line as counsel to NOT run or train for the marathon, that the short term impulse is rash, and the long term impulse will still be with you when this opportunity to run is past.

boo-hoo!

I'm a bit distraught...it seems that everyone is in agreement, no divergent interpretations this time!

Sparhawk, the actual injury, I believe (not sure) was a stupid one, not even related to running or exercise...I was cutting the grass, and when I was done I slung the weed-wacker over my shoulder, and as I took a step, it hit my heel. Actually, it bounced, and hit it twice. It felt like when someone is following too closely with a shopping cart and runs into your heel. Anyway, the running just continued to aggravate it. I was able to use other machines at the gym (which is a bummer because I like to be outside more, even in the rain) without it hurting, but the impact of running is just too much. I took a few weeks off two weeks ago, and it felt really good until today.

Why do you ask about antibiotics? None for me...I'm a nurse, the worst kind of patient! There's another thought...maybe I should actually go see a doctor...

Thanks for your input Rosada and Tiger

What are the chances I'll be able to run this race in 4 weeks...

7 unchanging. That seems to give me hope - order and discipline. Or is it just re-iterating what I wrote above...seek help from the experienced...

With a question like this one, where you're only dealing with yourself and not an army of people, I see 7 unchanging as meaning get all your own ducks in a row. Train for the marathon, get your body in good alignment, but let your final decision be based on what is best for your long term health. An army trains and prepares but waits until the final moment to decide whether to actually enter a battle.

31.Influence changing to 16. Enthusiasm suggests you are struggling with being influenced by your enthusiasm for the marathon. As you detach from that influence and make healing your goal you may find you not only master your desires but may actually be able to participate after all. The key thing is that you not be unduly influenced by desire. Be the commander of your army! Refuse to take orders from your desire nature!
Best,
Rosada

Got it!

Thanks, I appreciate your input. I am going to continue to cross-train, maybe try to run after a rest period. We'll see how it goes!

Update here...

I went to see a sports injury specialist, because I want to run, but don't want to do damage that requires surgery or become debilitating. His advice was Physical therapy for 2 - 4 weeks and ultrasound therapy. He advised against training (running). The race in almost 3 weeks. I'm still cross-training. I asked okay, what if I do try to run...answer is 11.2 > 36. Seems that it saying the same thing, huh? Wait and see how you feel, give it some more time? What do others think?

Wait until next year. If an achilles tendon injury gets inflamed
into tendonitis you want it immobilized as often as you can.
The transitional hexagram says extremely prolonged persistence.
I had a friend who's tendonitis got so bad the tendon snapped off
the bone. You don't want that. My own just went on for almost a
year until I started babying it.

The doc did give me diagnosis of "Achilles Tendinopathy"...a step beyond tendonitis he says. Looks like I just need to give up my pipe dream for the time being. Thanks for you input!

Thanks!

Thanks for the well wishes...I started Physical therapy today, which just reassured me that I need to stop for the next 4-6 weeks.
