Hello, everyone. I was curious about yi's advice on how to make a relationship work.

I thought this was an interesting response and so I wanted to share it.
Hexagram 17.2.3.5.6>14

Follow the relationship as if it were a Great Possession?

Makes sense. Now if I can understand the balance of lines 2 and 3.

Perhaps it is saying that there is a time for acting young and lighthearted fun (line 2) but to make sure to balance it with the ability to be mature when the time calls for it (line 3).

Lines 5 and 6 seem self explanatory, at least I think they do. Line 5 being almost an encouragement to follow what your heart truly desires despite setbacks.

Line 6 used to confuse me but I have come to see it as a very close bond that is hard to shake.

Trying to fit hexagram 14 into this reading. Perhaps it is a description of what kind of attitude to have towards a relationship? Or even how to see the relationship.

Wondering if I am being too superficial with this assessment.

Thunder in the middle of the lake:
The image of Following.
Thus the superior man at nightfall
Goes indoors for rest and recuperation.

Friends relax together and share. In friendship, a Great Possession is one that can be shared.

Thank you, Pocosin!

So the reading is saying give and take is essential to make a relationship work. Wonder how this would apply to a romantic relationship? Maybe the basis of a romantic relationship is friendship?

Balkin's keywords about Hexagram 17:

- Following
- Allegiance
- Loyalty
- Hunting
- Pursuits
- Adaptability
- Being Adaptable

The lesson in this Hexagram is that in order to Lead one must first learn how to follow.

An alternate take suggests you should consult the highest unchanging yang = Line 4, which seems to address an excess of strength shading into rigidity. As one settles into a relationship, the tendency is to depend more and more on maintaining that relationship either thru force of will or thru compromising principles. Either route (often both routes at once, as contradictory as that seems) constitute a slipping away from the Path, a matter of going along to get along.) "Only if one has deep faith in the right way is the trail of mind clear and faultless" (Buddhist I Ching)

This is consonant with the rest of your reading. 17 seems to give great advice about relationships any way you look at it.
