Does anyone remember when that idiot thought that the world was round...they threatened to kill him, excommunicated him...burn him at the stake too...what a moron, to think that the earth is round when everybody agrees it is flat...

The virtue is the glass is not to be filled, it is to contain, it is a glass even if half filled...do you not see ?

FuZi

Yes its quite easy to understand your answer to the question about the glass. As easy as it was to understand all the other equally good answers. There is no one right answer.
Why are you so attached to maintaining that your answer is the right one ?

And does it really matter anyway. I can't say its a dilemma that keeps me awake nights.

You know I wonder at some of these monks asking daft questions like is it the flag or wind moving - hadn't they got anything more important to worry about :mischief:

Er and with regard to those persecuted, burnt at the stake and so on for saying the earth was flat - well i can't see you in quite the same category Fuzzi. You see no one has said your answer was even wrong let alone show any inclination to set fire to you. I'm afraid you'll have to be more controversial than setting forth a glass theory to get that kind of reaction.

See: Zen's Nothing. Hence the glass is neither half full nor half empty, any more than a dog has or has not Buddha nature.

http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/japanese-zen/#ZenNot

Now, where's those ropes and matches :mischief:? Mind you, not for presenting a koan, but for concluding with a "grasshopper" type of answer to it. An appropriate answer, if one is needed at all, would be in the form of 64, not 63.

My aim is not to have people agree with me or disagree, though I would prefer disagree while showing me a considerable reason to do so; yet, it would seem a natural human reaction to agree with the many, as is done often, without a proper thesis to do so. I do not challenge others to find an answer I believe and protect as Ipso Facto, but, rather, seek other views so I can consider exactly that, other potential views. I dont particularly appreciate a person that cannot change his or her mind, or opinion, me the least, as I do it often, and, sometimes, often about the same thing.. Some hypothesis are analogies to Yi comprehension, seeking its simplicity while formulating questions differently is my motive...these exotic Zen plagiasts are mere Chen copies with sushi flavoured Kaons...having the simple minded in awe over the trivial...the mind moves koan is baloney if you ask me, so is the half empty half full, for it is both, obviously. I invited perspective, again, fortunately or unfortunately, I got mostly resistance instead of suppleness....let that be yet another lesson.

If the glass if halfilled with whiskey, that's enough. I will get pleasantly buzzed.

If the glass if half full of water, thats enough. I can quench my thirst. I can paint a water color

if the glass is half full of paint thinner, that's enough. I can clean my brush.

If the glass is half full of poisonous oleander juice, that's enough. I will die.

If FuZi is half full of a grecian canadian sage woman, that's enough. she can mess with your minds.

and only you can know when enough is enough.

I may be utterly mistaken, but I don't think FuZi here is Demitra... That doesn't "compute"... :D

You asked for perspective, I offered you mine. Your perspective is that it was baloney. No foul.

As far as you receiving resistance, of course! Anyone who pontificates is likely to be challenged. You also offer resistance, in that you haven't agreed with anyone yet. No foul. No persecution.

Perhaps a peer approach might find a warmer reception?

what does confucious say

Dunno what confucius says, but I've noticed two things about that poster: first, by his/her posting pretty useless thread questions, it generates tons of respones, mine included. Weird, unless you see people here as suckers for superficial approaches. Second, the things confucius say make very little sense, although he/she has the ability to keep threads going. I've analyzed things Confucius has said, and the logic is usually illogic. I think Confucius is a bit of a troll.

I think Confucius' main ability is to prick people's skin and pique and tempt them to respond.

Confucius: have I pricked your skin and piqued and tempted you to respond? If so, you're everything I think you are lol.

I can't make up my mind whether you are just young with delusions of Zen-like grandeur or you're just out to have a laugh. Anyway, I agree with Matt, these threads are a hoot.

Hi Fuzi,

I don't care what anyone says... I like your posts. A little verbal sparring never hurt anyone. You're a fine glass in my book, FuZi...even if you are a bit cracked.

I agree with Listener.. I never knew Demitra much but I had the nagging feeling that she and Fuzi are one and the same... at least Fuzi reminded me MUCH of Sunflare.

But you can't call her a troll. Don't forget that she made nice contributions in the ethymology, was it? threads, and everybody liked it very much.

I think she likes having fun, perhaps a little bit at our expense, I suppose, but I, for one, have had some fun as well, so yes, I like the threads.:)

There, find above a first reason- able quote, Light Angel, for the first time, by anyone but bruce_g, remembers how I have spend nights and dozens of nights again in refining and documenting etymologies to share and argue. I have gotten a tenfold of responses by triggering bogus threads than with down to Earth serious harmony-minded educational threads...agree ?

Is it not amusing/confusing that when speaking about me all use the She/He gender, even without provoking it I am subject for dilemma.....

I like you all, honestly, and find it, though awkard, a priviledge to have such a thread.

I see no similarity at all between Fuzis posts and those from Demitra.

Do you think the etymology threads were really her style ?

I kept looking up "confucious" to see the other threads but nothing came up? and those etymology threads at the time I did not read carefully.

but like my fellow detective Lightangel :) , I thought the above sounded like demitra (in disguise) and A LOT like sunflare who was also.....oh yeah. Don't forget, Demitra is a VERY talented, intelligent writer and quite capable of assuming different personas.
If I am wrong, I humbly bow. after all, I am still wondering who getojack is (was).

just speculation. all in fun.

Listener theres no need to use the search facility, just click on his name at the start of any post by him, then go to view public profile, you then have several options one of which is 'view all threads started by confucius'. Much easier than the search facility which never gets me anywhere.

Yes!!! So it is the glass' nature to BE FILLED, to SHARE ITS EMPTINESS. :)

Seems to me the glass' nature is to contain, which is quite independent of whether it is filled or not. In times of drought the lake drys to nearly a drop. Is it not still a lake? That is, is it not still in potenetial to contain? I think there are times to fill and times to empty, but the nature of glass, lake, container is unaltered.

Nice! Also similar to what Fuzi originally said.

Contain seems to be a key word around here lately. Well, contain and restrain.. also train. That dang horse just won't stay down.
