an image for a relationship

I've recently entered a new relationship, one I'm slowly getting rather excited about. I asked the Yi for an image of our relationship, in an overall way, not just right now. Yi said 2, unchanging. That struck me as kind of extraordinary -- the quiet, unmoving earth, for something as dynamic as a relationship? I suppose one way of viewing it is as all potential, though again, that seems a bit odd given that it seems to be busting out all over. Plus, I asked for an image of it as a whole, not just right now, so what is a 2-type relationship?

I'd be interested in hearing anyone's thoughts.

Hi Sylvie,

Just because you received an unchanging hexagram, it doesn't necessary entail the matter you were inquiring is static or unchanging.

One translation of "kun" is receptive. An unchanging 2 can mean that the relationship (or the people involved) is receptive to change. Perhaps you are both comfortable enough to "go with the flow"? If this is the case, this doesn't strike me as "unmoving."

What do you think?

What you say makes sense, Philippa. I wasn't so much thinking about it being an unchanging hexagram so much as the nature of the hexagram itself. It's an image of the earth in a kind of quiescent state, all possibility but no actuality.

But thinking about it in terms of receptivity sounds right. I suppose one way of viewing the reading is as saying the relationship is fertile ground -- sounds nice. I do think we're both receptive to change. I've been very impressed by his, well, receptivity, and his ability to grow. He's a good man, and I'm glad to be with him, whatever the future holds for the relationship.

Another interesting aspect of the reading is this: what do you do with fertile ground? You plant it. Seems like that offers a suggestion about the mode to be in with respect to the relationship.

Bustin’ out all over is what earth does best! The Creative finds a place to manifest and grow, together.

Of course there’s also the idea of not boxing one another in, or trying to make it something of your own design, but being open to an organic process, seeded by heaven.

Auspicious and lovely answer, me thinks.

Doesn't the text of 2 give the image of a mare travelling all about the earth? Perhaps you should be thinking sunset walks and tropical vacations together? Also, 2 is the hexagram of devotion. I once asked if my then long-term girlfriend, now wife and mother of my daughter, loved me and got 2 unchanging. At first I was kind of disappointed - no 61 or 14, you know - but then I thought about it some more...
