It's difficult to say because of the way you phrased the question. Oracles are sometimes a little like the impetuous Genie in the lamp in Bugs Bunny cartoons. They give you an answer that is exactly what you asked for, even if you really meant something a little different. The answer you're looking for is yes/no, and not in reference to you, but to someone else. So it becomes very difficult to figure out what that answer really means.

Intuitively from the answer, I think you might cause a fearful or angry internal reaction in the person by bringing up something they have put in the past. I think it's clear they will react, but maybe not externally, and maybe not in a reply.

My personal experience with 51 has never been good. Never.

...thanks for that...although you say your personal experience has been negative with 51..the hexagram itself is not entirely negative is it? is there any way it could be interpreted in a more positive way? i am going to ask the i ching again and maybe phrase the question a little differently, and see what happens...

many thanks, sparkler

No, I don't think so (it's not always negative). The meaning doesn't change, of course, it's an electric jolt of energy similar to Uranus in Astrology or some aspects of the Tower in Tarot. But it's all about context. I tell you where I've seen it come up positively- when I've asked for a picture of other's feelings, and realized what I was seeing was the "arousal" of physical attraction.

But- generally, this refers to the experiences surrounding losses. And generally, I would expect a defensive reaction here.

I think 32 is coming up to show you the context of your question, which has to be about some great length of time- whether stretching back into the past or out into the future- I don't know.

50.6 is promising you that your actions have been exemplary. But the real quetion, of coruse, is will you get what you are seeking. If I were asking, "will I get something", and I received the most auspicious line of the Ting, which is a hexagram of substance, I would assume that I would.

But, again, I don't know if you can be entirely certain based on the question. Sometimes, if you ask a second time, you receive a new perspective on the situation. This may be the i-ching directing the attention to you instead of to the other party, and telling you that you've made a noble offering.

To really get focus, maybe a question along the lines of, "show me this person's internal response to my letter", and then "show me this person's external response to my letter", and then, "show me if my objective in writing the letter will be acheived".

Sparkler,
I took the liberty of asking, "show me this person's external response to Sparkler's letter". I got 22.2.4. (14).

22 is a focused perspective that appears harmonious and symmetrical, hence the name, "Grace". This hexagram emphasizes that the surface response looks good. The second line speaks to paying excessive attention to one part of your message- perhaps to the exclusion of other portions? Perhaps to draw attention away from the underlying emotions? I'm just guessing- you are the only one who knows the full situation. Line 4 is time again. When the time is right. The context or evolving situation is 14, possession, a hexagram similar to 50. So, unless your letter is specifically about some kind of possesion, and that's why 50 and 14 are showing up, I believe you will possess a response.

My guess is you will get a response; but it may be not quite what you expected, despite a superficial gracefulness.

thanks so much autumn for casting the question... the hexagram you received, 22 makes a lot of sense in this context...the person i have written to is very mindful of image...indeed she works in the fashion industry and appearance is very important to her...i feel this could also be the case in terms of social convention...ie appearing to respond in a way that is socially gracious...i think she may have difficulty with spontaneous emotion..i hope i am making sense...i do not know this person very intimately...but i think at heart she means well...so i just hope that i will get a good response... many thanks, sparkler
