I am looking for another job...
And suddenly, reading the job offers, I had this idea: why don't I ask the I Ching about the job I have now?... I always ask about the jobs for wich I apply (or intend to apply), but never about the present job.
So...

Question: What should I know about the job I have now?
Answer: 50.2.5.6 > 31

Well... I don't like the job I have now. I don't like the boss and the people with whom I have to work. Because the work in itself could be very interesting. I started in January, when I most needed a job. It could be considered a success, because it's well paid. After 2 weeks, I already knew that it wasn't the right place (it's also the opinion of the 2 others colleagues recruited at the same time).
The middle manager we had at that time, in January, was nasty. (Maybe the meaning of line 50.2) In March, he was dismissed. But things are not better, and we all are thinking that we should find other jobs.
And now... this answer. Does it mean that it would be ok for me if I stay here? That I don't have to change my job? That I should persevere? ...

Hi Simona,

For my interpretation, this time I'll work backwards.

The image of 31 is
Thus the superior man encourages people to approach him
By his readiness to receive them.

You need to be in a place where management is approachable.
Currently you get paid well, but you do not get to contribute your best work or your best ideas. How to get there?

50 The Cauldron cooks a meal for everyone when fuel catches on fire.
50.2 Focus on results that speak for themselves. Don't pay attention to what gossipers or jealous people say.
50.5 With a personally humble attitude, and a desire to do great work, you will find a team able to work with you. (In the business book "Good to Great," Jim Collins describes leaders who are passionate about the work, and not interested in personal praise.)
50.6 With strong, sturdy handles, the cauldron can be successfully moved. These handles are also appealing works of art in their own right.

You need to make good results, participate in a good team, do work that is its own art (whatever it means for your type of work), and work for an approachable leader who is "ready to receive" the team's contributions. If you can find this in your current job, great, otherwise it is time for a new job.

the answer was confusing

the oracle's answer, or my commentary?

If it was my commentary, I'll try to rephrase it a clearer way.

Question: What should I know about the job I have now?
Answer: 50.2.5.6 > 31

The lines say that you should concentrate on your work and just ignore what is going on around you, you seem to have the wrong attitude to your job which needs to be changed if you want to get on here, you need to work and be above reproach, you also need patience and perseverance which you are obviously lacking.

Hex 31 says that you need to form a bond with this job, it cannot be rushed, you need to keep your emotions under control then you will be able to enjoy your work.

Willowfox, it looks like you took a different approach than me. Are you saying that problem is not really with the job, but with Simona's attitude to the job? If so, does that mean she get could "get a new job" while at the same job - by being a new person at the old job? That interpretation might be more hopeful than my thought that the oracle told her to move on out...

The answer suggests to me that she is the problem, not the job, her attitude is all wrong, she is actively looking for problems instead of just getting on with the task that she is paid to do.

Just my opinion so everyone stay cool.

I'm cool  with your having that opinion, and I see how you got there from her question and the lines. Just checking that I understood ya.

Thanks, Willowfox. That was my interpretation too - something like "you need patience and perseverance and it will be ok". And it was confusing because the reason tells me that there are no chances for development and learning at this job (which is a comfortable job, otherwise). And if it was only my opinion, ok, I would say "I am the problem"; but it's also my colleagues' opinion.
Well... we'll see :)

I once heard someone describe 50.6 as something really good that you can actually lift up and take elsewhere........so in light of your question, I could imagine that the Yi's response is saying
about your present job that it's given you something really good - perhaps experience or know-how, or just knowing what you like to do....and that you want to be well-paid for doing it - and that if you choose, you can transfer all of this to a new position that you attract or are attracted to.
the line 50.2 points to trouble in the ranks - competitiveness or back-biting - but this cannot hold you back. You've been blessed by this job in ways that the small-mindedness of others can't take away...so I would take it as a "be thankful" and know that you "got the goods" to move forward if you want to.
