Hi, I-Ching Clarity forum members!
- :)

Just wondering if there's been any mention of specific sequences of the Hexagrams where only one line changes between each Hexagram. Like Hex #01, then Hex #44 (line 1 changed), then Hex #50 (line 5 changed), for example.

Hi
The only ones I know about change one line at a time from 1-6 and 1-6 again.
This makes 4 families of 12 gua each. It's one of several things called the
Twelve Earthly Branches.
The best known family of these are the Sovereign Gua, starting 01, 44, 15, 12 etc,
through 02 and back to 01. I have them graphed in the "Early Heaven" square in
Figs 15 to 19 in my Dimensions chapter.

Further to Brad's observation, not sure what you train of thought is behind the question, however, there's one such sequence, attributed to Fu Xi but most likely devised by Shao Yong for numerological reasons. There's some information online. Check Steve Marshall's site.. Now, these different sequences are disassociated with the received text and had other purposes.

In the thousand of years since the inception of the Zhou Yi and then the Yijing, many exegetes and commentators have come up with their own sequences, such as the example Brad pointed at.

Thanks, Luis! :) Just wondered if there were any sequences like that...seemed like a good way to order them, to me. Each one relating to the next one with with a smallest possible change. The Shao Yong sequence is actually different from what I'm describing, though - note how between the second and third Hexagrams (#23 and #28) two lines change, for example.

Shao Yong's sequence follows a binary logic, that is, it counts from zero to 63: 000000(0), 0000001(1), 000010(2), 000011(3), 000100(4), and so on. But I see where it differs from your idea, for example, in changing from 3 to 4, where the "two" digits making up 3 are changed by a 1 in the third position thus making 4.

In he Shao Yong sequence there are bigger graphic changes than that with a single step.
The biggest is from Qian (63) to Kun (64=0) where all six change.
