Hi Celeste! I never heard of the robinwood tarot. sounds nice.
I have a set of the aleister Crowley Thoth cards, I think that I bought them but I can't remember. I also have Rider - Waite. I like to use the spreads recommended by Angeles Arriens in her book "the Tarot Handbook......and I love her interpretations. I recently had my cards read in a bookstore. Itwas interesting. I hope you will tell us more about your cards and perhaps I will PM you for a reading.
best to you,
Listener

Celeste, I read Tarot cards.
I don't have the Robin Wood one but I knw of it, I liked it.
In answer to your question,I learned on the Swiss IJJ, and then was given the Rider Waite which I used for many years without ever wanting another.
However,I also have now,one that i bought several yrs ago,but never use--the Witches Tarot, and a while back found the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot,(literally found it) and was given as a gift the Florentine Minchiate deck.
I liked the Soprafino deck but only got it about 4 or 5 yrs ago, I had asked for it--but somethings didn't work as well with it as I'd hoped. However, it is a very special deck-still. What would you like to talk about?:)

Celeste, btw,I reread your questions, and I saw you wanted to know we came by the cards exactly .
The ones I started with, the Swiss IJJ, I bought for my *mother* not myself.
I started looking at them more, and reading a little of a book I'd found in a book club.
My mother didn't use them much at all though, I know she read them once at least.
The Rider-Smith-Waite deck came from a friend who had received them from a book club also, perhaps the same one I bought my book from, ;-)
but she didn't read them or use them--just gave them to me.
They were great, were special to me,and gilt-edged even. And they worked very well.
They got destroyed about 9 yrs later and I was given a new Rider Waite deck, which took a longer time to work well. But I received it because I wanted it and said so--which I don't think works for me, although lots of people buy their's nowadays.
Later on my mother bought me a deck, too, so then I used that one.(which worked better for me.)I found the New Orleans Voodoo tarot on a subway stairs platform, and when no one was looking around for them or seemed to have missed them, I took them home--and was thrillled with learning about them for several weeks afterward.(I don't use them for readings now).
The Soprafino came from Italy, but, I had a feeling I should not order them for myself, and even though they wound up being a gift, I had a feeling that maybe I wasn't to have them.
Not a bad feeling, just a feeling I might not get them, or they might not work well for me.
Everyone, including myself who wanted to buy them for me, had difficulty ordering them.
And then of all things, later on, one card was lost at at the home of a much younger, close friend of mine who was in turmoil.
That was not a good omen either, obviously.;-)
The Florentine Minchate came from Switzerland but are not Swiss cards, just happen to be sold there, and I received them as a gift. They're very unusual and have extra cards compared to most decks. .
I have to tell you I'm happy for you that you received yours as a Christmas gift, and I'm thrilled and impressed that you use them and yet you are blind.
Talk to me Celeste. :) (if you want to that is)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for replying to my wonderful thread! I've been eading tarot for about 5 years or so and have found that even though I'm blind I can still read tarot, by memorizing the pictures on the cards and having a sighted person help me braille them. If any of you would like to do a tarot reading exchange PM me please with your first anme, jender, location.
All the best,
Celeste

Hi Proserpine,
Thanks for the post, by te way I was going to explain to you the robinwood tarot. It's based on the rider-waite tarot, but has some pagan symbology mixed in with it. It's really interesting,f rothe suits are traditional, but some images have been added. Now when I read tarot I go by my intuitions and feelings. I can see the pictures in my mind after they've been described to me! Then I'm able to merge the potion of the spread, symbology as well as other elements of the cards together. Colors I associate with either a warm or cool feeling. Music comes into play as I can relate cards to different musical aspects. It has to do with therry as I'm a musician. So I can add different types of musical systems when I read for they come to mind whenever I read the cards for others, as well as numerology. BTW, I have a couple certificates from the TCBA (Tarot Certification Board of America) and from the Voyager tarot institute by James wanless. Wow, that sounds like a lot of decks and I love the fact that I got my deck (robinwood) deck for Christmas. Tarot has been a never ending journey for me.
