I don't, either. Huh.

There's a "Leave" button, but I bet that's just if you don't want to be included in the conversation anymore.

......maybe it's for the same reason that threads usually can't be deleted, because (in the case of conversations) there's always more than one person involved, so no one person can delete on their own. (I know this because I already tried starting a conversation with myself, and it doesn't let you.)

Oh dear. I already have multiple conversations and I do get confused and start answering the wrong one which could potentially be embarrassing. It was easier to see who you were answering with PMs besides that we can't leave 100s of conversations there can we ?

It's also really weird that one can report posts in a private conversation meaning it's never private which I don't understand. I think the conversation format is much better, much more useful for human exchange patterns but there's funny issues with it like another issue is I reckon if there's a few of us on a conversation it just seems like a forum thread and one can forget it isn't. I guess that doesn't matter actually...erm but the report button is pretty weird to have in a private conversation

Thinking we do need to know this as if our conversation box is full and we can't empty it then we won't be able to have more conversations @hilary

all you get when you select messages and go to the dropdown box is the chance of leaving the conversation which isn't deleting it is it. So there are loads of old messages still there from old forum to get rid of but we can't

I suspect (without actually knowing) that there's no such thing as "full." Less like inbox, more like forum, possibly.

There's a "Leave" button
Yes, that's the one. Once you 'leave' a conversation, it doesn't show up on your list any more, but as long as the other participant/s don't leave from their end, it doesn't disappear altogether. So it's really equivalent to deleting an email.

Hm, yes, but then again you could always forward an objectionable or spammy private message to a moderator. Same idea.

True. Which, come to think of it, may not actually be sustainable in terms of server usage.

It works better than you think it's going to - click 'filters' on the Conversations home page to make the list a bit more manageable - but it's still a bit much to have this endlessly-growing list of conversations. Hm. There is...
https://xenforo.com/community/resources/conversation-essentials.6694/ for just $45. It offers, among many other things, labels/folders for emails, limits to inbox size on a per-usergroup basis, and the ability to create and store groups of participants so you can start a conversation with that group in one go.

Worth having? Maybe it's too early to say. We can come back to it later.
